Testing Types in UD Psych, Soc, History

I was wondering if anyone knew the type of exams that professors gave for different courses in Psychology, Sociology, and History. In particular I'm looking for classes that have only multiple choice type of exams for Upper Division. (maybe even matching or short answer - but no formal papers! throughout the course) If you know of any that meet this criteria, could you please post the course name, how many exams/quizzes, and test type it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

If your taking a history class your going to have to write an essay both for your final and take-home assignments. You have to remember this is UCSB not a junior college. If you do get multiple choice on a test its going to to be only one small portion of the test like 20%. This is just my experience so far in both upper and lower division courses as a history major.

Thanks for your response Lucas2544.

I understand that what I’m asking for is a long shot, but it’s been a while since I’ve had to write formal papers and I need a quarter to get brushed up on my writing skills (I’m auditing some writing classes in the Winter). In the meantime I don’t want my grades to suffer…so I’m looking for alternative forms of testing until I can get up to speed. Does anyone else have some classes that they can suggest?

First off, I cant speak for Psychology or Sociology papers but I cant speak for History papers. I was sooo rusty when it came to my writing skills I was really worried about all these big essays that I had due. I picked up a little book at the UCSB bookstore called “Writing History Papers” that is very helpful. But the key thing that helped me more than anything was going to office hours. Every time I was working on an essay I would go see my teacher or TA and show them my thesis, ideas, etc and they would be very helpful. One of my TA’s gave all her students handouts about what they are grading on, whats required of a paper, how to form a thesis, etc, that were really helpful. They also have the writing lab thing at the Student Resource Building and they have people that will go over your essay with you and give you suggestions etc. I haven’t checked it out yet so I can’t tell you much about it. I used to prefer multiple choice and matching over essay tests but now I’m total opposite. My first paper I got a C+ but since then I have got all A’s and one or two B’s. Don’t be scared, the teachers really want to help you so go to them. Also, make sure you start PLENTY early, don’t procrastinate.
