How do they know what words are going to be tested on the specific SAT date...

English05 had the list and was kind enough to give it to many ppl. she says that a guy is incharge of the testmaster, and he is really smart. he does the lists. if u ask me, i think this is a lie from testmasters. maybe that guy is an ETS member. but who cares?!! its our gain.

If anyone has the list for the Jan. 22 test date and would be willing to share with a fellow student it would be awesome. I just need to boost my verbal about 50 points and I would be well in the 1550+ range. Help me out please... My e-mail is EPorrell@ufl.edu, thank you in advance.

If all the words are gonna be on the SAT, it is pretty much guarenteed to raise your score. Will they have a word list for the March SAT?

Logically, since he is unable to ascertain the accuracy of the list, he is seeking the advice of others on this forum who have used it. It would be foolish to capriciously choose a list, especially with the next SAT on the horizon.

I see that point, but many people have responded before that the list was very accurate.
He had this list at the beginning of January (I don't know if he started memorizing it), but waiting till now to ask isn't the right time. He should continue what he was doing.
He has even started memorizing Barron's 3500 Wordlist and thought of switching to Kaplan's.
The indecisiveness is just taking away from his time to prep for the SAT.

I have the list (for the Jan 22nd test) and I memorized every word on it but I still find it unbelievable that it contains every word on the test. This is of course unless the list was made by someone who has knowledge about the actual test for that particular date.

Icyfire,

I believe testmasters actually performs a study in order to predict what words will be given on the next test. The owner of the company, Roger Israni, is an incredibly smart person (and nice), and I strongly doubt that he would provide a vocab list with malicious intent or for the sole purpose of making money.

i really don't know how they do it..they tell you a story about how the guy who does it goes through every word thats ever been on the SAT and uses a formula to see which have the most probability to show up this time around.. i dunno if that's true or not.. i just know it worked.

michael_pham:

I am not usin the list as my only guide. if i lnow either kaplans or barron's, i know all these words. so, i just have to check with the list and be sure i knkow them. no need to memorize. lol, i am not a procrastinator. i am 3/4 done with barron's. i know almost all of the words in the testmaters wordlist

from iamthewalrus160's post, i now know that the person has worked in ETS before, but not words). cheating on them-he might have stopped workin and uses a formula(that ETS has used until now to make the so thats y he still has the formula and is able to make lists. but he has maybe 75% chance, i think so, that these r right cause he is not working with ETS, where there are many ppl working on the same list. the ETS mixes and addes new words. but this person just uses a formula of old words. but if he really was a member of ETS, he has a great chance of getting this list right. but i advice u all to not completely trust this list (as u can see from my theory). use some other words along with this one. bgoodluck to everyone on jan. test. mail me if u want the list.

was it accurate?

There is no way you can simply predict words on the next exam through some formula. I'm guessing that they have an insider or two who provide them with confidential knowledge of the exam.

From the testimony of several posters and the fact that Testmasters is still in business, I think the vocabulary list is a safe bet. Whether or not the owner (who graduated from MIT, if I am not mistaken) works for ETS or has worked for them is irrelevant.

"There is no way you can simply predict words on the next exam through some formula. I'm guessing that they have an insider or two who provide them with confidential knowledge of the exam."

Isn't it possible that ETS has someone reading these forums and ETS may have the list themselves (actually they probably do have the list). If so, would they change the vocab at this point of time?

I do not think it is worth the trouble of changing the test because an extremely small amount of individuals happen to know what will be on the next test. It is not as if these lists are disseminated across the world to millions of individuals.

"There is no way you can simply predict words on the next exam through some formula. I'm guessing that they have an insider or two who provide them with confidential knowledge of the exam."

hey godot, its commonsense. there is a list of SAT courses everywhere. testmasters is not a secret organization with clandestine info about the SAT. its a tutoring place all around Texas. if the list were true, ETS would have the knowledge of this. i know that ETS knows all the courses for all tests. they try to avoid their techniques by new things on the SAT (they try). they may know about testmasters list. so, they will make sure the confidential information is confidential. there could be a formula that ETS uses to pick words randomly-they most common ones and the ones not used, from a collegiated dictionary. the testmasters might know that formula and they merely pridict the vocabulary. look at my previous("from iamthewalrus160's post.......")

Testmasters is a great place. I got a 1600 as a soph first try and went to a few classes. I missed a lot for debate and stuff but overall, their verbal strategies are amazing. And about this list, it actually did have literally every word that was in the right answer of the Dec. 4th. The method they used is one of recyclingand knowing when they recycle what. The 12/4 test was a repeat of some november 03 test or something, and basically, they must have figured that out through a pattern of other tests. Notice the list had 400some words, a large majority of which were not on the test, but the 50 or so words that were relevant made a huge diff. The predict all possibilities and so you have 400 words not just 50.

i am dying for this jan 22nd list could someone please mail it to me at:

potentialdivider@gmail.com

i need my sucke verbal score to go up!

sorry to revert to a tangent, but whoever said they went from a 1230 to a 1570 (or whatever it was) saddens me. i can't afford a freaking 700 dollar test prep course! i got a 1560 1st try on my own, but i frankly think it sucks ass that i will get no credit for that with colleges because of people who can buy their way up.
