Thanks

I don’t have admissions review success stories for A & M but wanted to make sure you knew that Texas A & M Galveston is actually part of Texas A & M, not one of those campuses in name only. Have you looked into the transfer to the College Station campus from the Galveston campus policies? Maybe if your son goes to the Galveston campus for one year and keeps a certain GPA he can automatically transfer to the College Station campus. Of course, I encourage him to plot out this course work carefully if this ends up being the plan, even looking up pros on ratemyprofessor and pick a prof to endure a few A’s.

There is also a Blinn guaranteed transfer program - have you heard about that? They even have apartment style dorms with students from both schools.

My D has several friends who go to A&M and a couple that are on the “Blinn Team”. The friends doing the Blinn program are loving it! They still get to live on campus and participate in all of the things the A&M kids do (except rush) but they attend all classes but one at Blinn. One of her very good friends had similiar stats as your S and she is doing great. Keep in mind though that not everyone is offered the “Blinn Team” and it’s actually pretty competitve also…Good Luck to your S!

He has been accepted to A&M Galveston and plans to go there if things do not work out at College Station. You are right about Galveston in that it is a part of the College Station Campus and is unlike the affiliated campuses. At Galveston, you will get an Aggie Ring! Also, you do not have to transfer from Galveston to College Station. You can just change your major and end up in CS.

pns3456 - Are there any financial advantages to going to the Galveston campus.? Do you know if the atmosphere in the dorms is the traditional college environment? I have a few daughters that want to go to A and M in a few years but with scholarships scarce there the finances are a factor.

Yes there are financial advantages. Galveston is significantly less expensive. about $4-5,000per year less. They do have dorms and it is very much and Aggie feel. I would say more than half of incoming Freshman are planning to move on to CS. However, they have a great marine sciences and engineering program. Also, they get to pull tickets for sporting events just like CS students do. The down side is that it is so small. About 1,800 students. They have room for about 900 on campus. Hope this helps. You can check it out at [Texas A&M University at Galveston](http://www.tamug.edu).

Galvastone is not worth it, if you wanna go into good engeneering collage then look somewhere else, just being at texas does not make it good… tell your son to apply in better universities coping with university stress and maintqining certain gpa is not easy there are high chances that one may only be at galvastone which os not good ranked.
