TAMU Galveston anyone?

My daughter got the waitlist/Blinn Team/Galveston/PSA options and marked everything.
She already got Galveston and still hoping she will get off the waitlist. Is anyone in the same situation?

Yes, I have applied to TAMUG. When I visited the corps, they told me that it was a great was to get into TAMU - CS. I am going to do it if I don’t get offered full admission.

I been admitted to TAMUG as well but now debating between TAMUG or just working extra hard at Blinn to transfer as a sophomore

My daughter decided that if she doesn’t get in or gets blinn team she is going to go to Galveston because that is the easiest way to go to College Station and like a told her not to think of it as a whole year, but two semesters and this year went super fast.
With just Blinn you are not assured that you will be able to transfer in a year.

If you’re daughter is taking challenging classes in HS, then Blinn should be a breeze for her. My psychology teacher, who’s an a&m alumni, told me to go to Blinn because they do have the guaranteed acceptance to Blinn students who have a 3.0 in all their classes after 24 completed hours.

I’m taking AP classes and supposedly my current classes are harder than those at Blinn because I have AP-Dual. Blinn is cheaper and if she has college level classes now then she can easily transfer into TAMU.

I’m still debating on Blinn & Galveston. Depends on my financial aid from Galveston, but my Psyche teacher advises Blinn college for my freshman year and to just study… I rarely ever study lol

my daughter is also taking a good number of AP’s and the exams that go with them. although she says galveston would be her choice after blinn team, we are still not sure…

hm well I brought down my choices to Galveston & Blinn if denied so I would recommend either of those over the PSA program. The PSA program is the same thing as Blinn’s TAP program…except more expensive. At leaat at Blinn she would be in the A&M environment- same with Galveston.

Has anyone who has gone to Blinn tell me how long it took you to transfer into A&M?

I just don’t know what to advise my daughter who already has the Galveston choice but at the same time wants to be in College Station. Should She go to Blinn if she doesn’t get in, or Blinn Team? or should she suck it up for a year and go to Galveston?

It really depends on how you both think she’ll do. Galveston is the easiest way to get into CS, and the most common. I MAY go there because there is no guarantee I’ll be able to make a 3.0 in ALL my classes, then again, that’s just an assumption about myself.

If your daughter knows she can keep up with her grades, then she could try Blinn and be in CS, or she can look at it another way; if she goes to Galveston then she’ll technically be a real aggie her freshman year instead of just someone surrounded by aggies, plus it’s less than a year there and it’s up to her to make it a good or bad experience.
It’s not even a year- there’s all those holiday breaks as well to consider.

It really is a tough decision but if you’re worried that she won’t be auto-accepted, and money isn’t a problem, then she should go to Galveston. Just be realistic about how you two think she’ll do if she were to go straight to Blinn.

As for Blinn TEAM- if she gets in she should do it but that also requires her to keep up her grades, and then she will likely be able to transfer after a year.

Hoprfulaggiemom, there is another thread here where the MyRecord tab is appearing on the Howdy Portal for some kids before their AIS is changing to Step6 & acceptance off the wiaitlist. My D has had this tab for a while, but we are wondering if it is because she has also been accepted to A&M Galveston. Can you share if you also have the My Record tab?

Yes my daughter also has my record tab but it is because she already got into Galveston.
When I called admissions they assured me that getting into Galveston would not put her at a disadvantage from getting off the waitlist. She did it so she could have one more choice if needed.

aggiemom, I’ve been accepted to Galveston and the price isn’t bad either. A little $10,000, for the whole year, so I may go to Galveston and just suck it up for a while. It’s only a couple of hours from CS and I’ll be driving there for the games and whatnot.
:)

We are hoping actually for Blinn Team as we think that will be the best fit for my daughter. Her 3rd choice if she didn’t get into A & M or Blinn team is to go to TAMUG for a year over going straight Blinn, because it seems easier to transfer over. I’ve heard & read about kids having good GPA’s at Blinn having a hard time getting in. Anyone have any thoughts on this? We toured TAMUG and she liked the campus. She is having 2nd thoughts however, after visiting CS last week with a friend and thinking she would rather have the whole CS experience, even having to go to Blinn. Hopefully she will get in off the wait list or Blinn team and we won’t have to make this decision!

My daughter is also hopping fo Blinn TEAM but if she doesn’t get it I think she should take the safest path and go to Galveston. She wishes she knew someone who is doing the same thing so I’ll let her know about you guys. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from? We live in Austin.

I live in San Antonio… I don’t like it much here lol.
Austin is a nice city and my dad lives there.

I think Galveston is the best bet because I’ve also heard of several people who had high GPA’s in Blinn and didn’t get into CS. You’re only auto-accepted if you have a 3.0 in ALL the classes, not just the GPA. so you could have a 3.5 GPA, but if one class is just under 3.0, then you may not be accepted…

We live in Richmond, a suburb of Houston. What are you planning on majoring in? My daughter’s first choice is Education. She met with an advisor from that college & he told her certain classes to take at Blinn, and if she kept in touch with him, with a 2.75 she could get in to CS after a year (with some summer school too). I would need to verify this with him. I know different majors would have different req. He said some classes at Galveston are hard too. So, just some food for thought. Again, hoping not to have to make this decision!

My daughter also wants to be in education. We have a son with autism so she wants to be a special needs teacher. I talked to someone John Buchanan at TAMU who is in charge of the TAP program, I guess is something similar to Blinn TEAM. This is in case she doesn’t get Blinn TEAM and he said the earliest she could transfer into the college of education would be in ayear in a half. So we need to decide Galveston in one year or Blinn and hope to transfer asap.

I forgot to mention that my daughter also met with one of the main Deans in the college of education and he mention to us the fact that eventhough A&M graduates the highest number of special needs and bilingual teachers in the state, the number is still low. So I gues it means they are in need of this kind of teachers.

That’s good information, thank you. My daughter is ultimately thinking a Masters in Speech Therapy so the advisor recommended Special Education as well. Sounds like I would need some clarification regarding hours needed, etc. Yes, he also told her more people are needed in this field, so hopefully this ultimately helps their chances. We will be in touch, and hopefully they both get good news soon! If she does end up in CS, has your daughter made plans for housing?
