Texas A&M Class of 2015

I have a question

I applied in November, but I had to send in a new transcript in January, is that considered late now??
:/

November is pretty late. Application time is Aug 1-January 15. A&M is rolling admissions so the sooner the better.

I was offered their Gateway program for this summer. I noticed the change in my AIS page about a week ago, I was glad considering it’s a lot better than a flat “nope.” Couple of weeks at A&M during summer keep a 2.0 or better with out failing a class and I’m in!

here are my stats.
SAT- 1010 (composite) and 1510 overall, not too good : /
Ranking - 27/122 (First Quarter)
GPA- 3.67 out of 4.0
Rigorous Courses- All IB classes (7)
Extracurriculars- I have a couple, the main one, i am a radio show host, been doing it since freshman year
Work - June 2007 - March 2010
Essays- All three
Letter of recommendation - one
Submitted App.- before Dec. 1st.

You should be hearing soon, they update their AIS system every Wed. after 5 PM
Best of luck to all!

P.S. Anyone else in here going into the gateway program for summer?

I was doing my research about wait list, and I found this post from the past years in this forum. In my opinion, I don’t think it is a bad thing they have put you in the wait list.

‘‘A select group of applicants will be offered the opportunity to be placed on the Wait List and considered for the Blinn TEAM option.’’

I haven’t heard at all, been waiting since August.

Still at stage 3.

Applied like 3 months ago. Except my school transcript arrived late because it’s international mail (the closing date on the AIS system was Jan 15 but mine got there on Jan 18)…

Here are my stats:

GPA 3.0/4.0
Unranked
SAT 1440/1600, 2030/2400
SAT II: Math 2 760, Bio M 760, Chem 740

Do I still have a chance even I’m slightly late?

tough brianhk. not sure you are going to be ok here, pretty sure all documents had to be there before deadline - no exceptions.
So you apply just before the deadline and the transcripts didnt get there in time? procrastination isn’t your friend.
You should call admissions and ask this question to be sure.

I cheked my ais today
and i got offered the waitlist option along with blinn team
I was wondering that if i accept the blinn team option, are there good chances of me getting or could i be easily denied? how many people do they take for blinn team?

Financial Aid Question:

Aid Application: Received
Total Aid: $0.00

Does that mean they’ve processed my FAFSA and I’m getting nothing in financial aid from Texas A&M? Quite disappointing since I turned down $40,000 in scholarship money from The Ohio State University…

^ when you went to the Financial Aid portal did you click on the “Fall 2011, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012” because when I logged in it said the same thing but when I clicked the link I saw that I had been awarded something.

Also, I would highly recommend calling the Financial Aid people and telling them about your other scholarships and expressing your need for the money.

No give it time to update.
I have spoken admissions rep and she said that march is “the money month” so fafsa should be updated soon
Today I spoke with the financial aid desk at texas a&m college station and she said ut could update even until April or may so its matter of time
I’m in the same situation

Clicking on the link leads me to “You have no financial aid in an offered status.”

Hopefully you’re right and it will take a little time to update! And I will call the Financial Aid office, thanks for your advice!

@klparker312 “November is pretty late. Application time is Aug 1-January 15. A&M is rolling admissions so the sooner the better.”

Lol I applied around feb 25th, as an undergraduate transfer.
Major #1: Chemical Engineering
Major #2: Electrical Engineering.

I got so nervous after reading this thread, since I applied late and people applied before November. Also I am still on the 3rd step while others already got their reply. Hopefully my GPA(3.7)/ Credit hours(56) help out!

Melica12 that point was made for Freshman Admissons. I don’t even know when date for transfer admissions start, closes March 15?

Daughter applied in October, last week was offered wait list/ Blinn Team consideration and a few other options. I have to say she is most disappointed. I really thought she had a decent shot and I’m really surprised she wasn’t at least offered Gateway. Here are her “stats”: 1130 CR+M, 1690 overall, top 17% of graduating class, 3.73/4.0 GPA, lots of pre-AP and AP classes, many extracurriculars with leadership positions, NHS, many volunteer hours. I have to say that in hindsight, I feel somewhat responsible for pushing her to take the more rigorous classes and not playing the Top 10% Game. What I mean by this is that the regular classes at her school are a joke, with minimum effort resulting in top grades. Many of her classmates achieved top ten % status this way. One of her friends has been accepted to A&M under this joke of a law and scored below a 1000 on the SAT. I just feel strongly that there should be other qualifiers in place besides just being in the top 10%. I know she’ll be better prepared than many by virtue of taking these higher level classes, but I have to wonder what good is that if she can’t even get into the university she chooses. Looks like our Association of Former Students donations will now be going to another university. Luckily she was accepted at several other schools and will more than likely be just fine, but is heartbroken. Way to go Texas Legislature!

I hate this for your daughter. The top 10% law is hard on kids like her. And there are other avenues for automatic admission - 1300 on SAT or 30 on ACT plus top 25%. Unfortunantly your daughters SAT scores were just a little too low to be competitive when there are 30,000+ applicants. You can probably blame the poor economy more than the top 10% law. People arn’t able to send their kids to Baylor, SMU, TCU, ACU etc -so they are flooding the two flagship universities in Texas (A&M & ut) with applications.
We were worried about our daughter getting admission, she applied in 2008, class '13. Her high school didn’t weigh AP, Dual Credit, or Honors courses any different than regular classes. This was fixed - by state law - the following year after she graduated. However, a large portion of the top 10% of her class had never taken anything but the recommended graduation plan. No AP/DUAL/HONORS classes. My daughter did essay #3 on how wrong this was for her high school to not weigh more challenging classes - her decision was to go ahead and take the more rigurous courses which would better prepare her for A&M but, did put her in the top 12% and no automatic admission. Her ACT was a 29 and her SAT’s were 1290 - just all around outside automatic admission.
I really think she should give Blinn Team a chance - It is a great way to go, and still be an Aggie. And then just wait for the students that got into A&M with low SAT test scores but were top 10% to flunk out  Then transfer into their spots.

i agree - go ahead and do blinn team if that is offered if a&m is really where she wants to go.

if she goes elsewhere when she really wants a&m, it may not work out so well anyway.

my nephew is on blinn team and he is getting the full a&m experience. he lives in one of the off campus dorms.

@wsmith65.
If I am not mistaken you can file for your daughters application to be reviewed again and hopefully she might be able to obtain admissions this way. Don’t quote me on it I remember reading something about this so, you might want to do some research to make sure.

I completely agree. In my case my school is a charter school and top 10% is almost impossible to be in, we have a graduating class of 122 students and those who are top 10% have a GPA of 3.8-4.0 If the students who are in the top quarter at my school were at our normal highschools we would for sure make it to the top 10% But there is not much we can do other than accept the fact that competition is difficult at our school

I hear you. The main problem with this choice is the fact that the probability of her being offered either a spot off the wait list or a spot on Blinn Team is still not that great. At first, she was just going to check the box for wait list, but after a few days of deliberating, decided to check the box for consideration for Blinn Team as well. In the meantime, we are going to visit two of her other choices (Baylor and OU) and see which one she likes better. We’ll put a housing deposit down on one, so she doesn’t end up with nothing. Luckily, she’s not averse to trying new things, meeting new people. She’s well aware that what she “gets” out of an experience is equal to what she puts into that experience and knows that she’ll only be as happy as she makes her mind up to be! Her main reservations with Blinn Team are that she just really wants to have a “normal” freshman year. She wants to go to Fish Camp. Blinn Team can’t. She wants to go through sorority rush. Blinn Team can’t. She wants to live on campus. Blinn Team can, but due to the timing issues, it’s highly unlikely housing will be available. There is just so much more “red tape”. I think she’s really thinking it through and has legitimate concerns. My husband and I are diehard Aggies, and this whole process has been hard on all of us. I just have to trust that she’ll end up wherever she is meant to be…and if that means we have to suck it up and send our daughter and money to OU or Baylor, then that’s what we’ll do. Just stick the knife through my heart, A&M, and don’t count on our donations for awhile! Lol! ;)

Hahah! yeah I bet A&M will not only be missing out on your money but on your daughter as well. Best of luck for ya’ll both of her other options are great schools. Best of luck!

blinn teamers can go to fish camp. my nephew did. and the off campus dorms are pretty good. kids like them.

best of luck with your decision.
