Texas A&M - Mays Business School

So I got into A&M (yay), but not the business school and instead got into liberal arts. I thought I was a lock for it and my counselors even considered it a safety. My stats are well above what they’re looking for. However, as I was going some research, I read that Mays admissions are based on a first come first serve basis meaning that if you apply early in the college process and are considered qualified, you’re given a spot. Do you guys think that might be why?

I also got into Carroll School of Management so I’m a bit confused about the A&M decision.

@qoeoifjfjf Sorry this happened to you.

When did you apply and were you an academic admit or top 10% auto admit?
Mays takes 1000 students a year. https://mays.tamu.edu/undergraduate-enrollment-plan-2016-2018/
If your counselors considered A&M a safety for you, surely they are aware of this.
They should also know that Auto Admits and Academic Admits are admitted on a rolling basis, meaning that as soon as as the applicant is admitted to the university, they are admitted to the major.
The first notification of admissions decisions comes out Mid September.
Mays is usually full by mid November/early December. You should have been advised to apply early.

When an auto top 10% admit or academic admits are admitted to the university who had Mays as a first choice major and that major is full, they will be placed into their second choice major. If their second choice major is full, they will be asked to select an open major. The only colleges that fill up are Architecture and Mays.

Also, the only major where applicants are reviewed for qualifications is the College of Engineering.

At this point, you can still change your major by using the change of major icon in Howdy. Many student who do not get into Mays chose Economics in Liberal Arts or AgriBusiness, as a lot of the classes align the same.

My son will be applying to Texas A&M in July 2019, (he will be a college freshman 2020-21 school year) and I am trying to verify…if he is an auto admit and applies early, would he be accepted to Mays if he chooses BUAD as his first choice and there are still slots of that 1000 available? Do these early-applying auto applicants still get reviewed by Mays in any way (a holistic type of review) in order to get into the first come first served slots?

@WoodsMom2020
If your son is an top 10% admit (not 10.01+) or an Academic Admit, then yes, if he applies early, sends his supporting documents and his application is complete and in review before mid Oct, he will be admitted to Mays. However, I would not wait until Mid October.
There is no holistic review for the major. The only major that undergoes holistic review for the major is engineering (which is not to be confused with holistic review applicants for admissions to the university).
Yes, there are 1000 spots for freshmen in Mays. They will admit more than will accept the admissions offer.
Admissions is on a rolling basis, meaning as the application is processed, he will be placed in his major. The first admissions decisions come out around September 20 for auto/academic admits who have complete application files by September 15 +/-.
