Hello everyone. I am currently applying to Texas A&M University and on some of the course transfer sheets, it says that second choice majors ARE NOT considered. Does that mean If I put that major which states that it does not consider 2nd choice majors as first, my 2nd choice major (whichever it may be) will not be considered? Or does it mean that the major that states it does not consider 2nd choice majors, mean that THAT particular major will not consider you if you put that major as a 2nd choice major on the common application.
*I apologize in advance for how confusing this can be to read or understand but I will be so grateful if anyone could help me understand this since they are closed on the weekend!
For the sake of time lets assume you wanted to choose Business as your first choice. (That is what I am choosing so its an easier example.
Business is one of those schools that can ONLY be a “1st choice” at UT. Therefore if I put that major as second its as good as garbage and will not be looked at. What that DOES NOT mean is that by putting business as first, your second choice will be ignored. That is incorrect. If I were not to get in to B-School I will still have a shot at my second choice provided that it too does not require a 1st choice spot.
Let me leave you with this: Do not change your major from what you really want to study just for the sake of getting into the school you want to unless you are 99.99% sure you will be able to transfer after freshman year in to that 1st choice school you wanted. No school, I dont care if its Harvard or UPenn or Yale, is worth going to and studying something you are not passionate about just to get in. Because I know I want to study business, I will be putting business as my 1st choice. For my second choice I will be putting something like biology. However if Berkeley calls me up and offerers me the Bio major I will tell them ‘no’. Regardless of how much I want to be a Berkeley Bear.
If you are not sure about what you want to study then think a little bit and try to commit. Don’t let luck of the draw decide what you study. Best of luck!!!
This was so helpful! I appreciate your response and I totally agree with you. But I am trying to transfer based on financial reasons rather than because I want to be an Aggie. And its funny because I am actually transferring from UT haha.
