Texas Govt. Test

How does test work? Assuming I have a five on the AP US test, what score would I need to gain credit for government.

Each school has a page on their website for what test score you need to obtain to receive credit for the class. You can find UT's AP score requirements at
<a href="http://www.utexas.edu/academic/mec/cbe/cutape.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.utexas.edu/academic/mec/cbe/cutape.html</a></p>

Government says:

because eligibility for credit is not based on AP scores alone, no AP scores are listed. The UT Austin Test on Texas Government must be taken on the UT Austin campus.

Right, I was just wondering if anyone had access to the score matrix so I could see what score I needed. I realize they don't have it posted.

I've heard it's pretty easy--all of my friends who took the TX test passed. Just do a quick review so you know things like who was the first president of Texas, what year did we join the US, what were the important battles in the fight for TX independence, etc. Definitely do take the test--don't be dumb like me and waste a semester in GOV 310 after taking the AP test!

Can anyone suggest a good Texas Gov't review book? On the MEC site they suggest some $90, 400 page book, which I'm not really interested in studying for a 20 question MC test...

Take a look at the following UT website on Texas politics.

<a href="http://texaspolitics.laits.utexas.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://texaspolitics.laits.utexas.edu/</a></p>

It's the closest thing to Cliff notes for Texas government and it is free.

now that's a great post - thanks m1817

Now that I have a resource to prepare for the Govt test, I'm not sure If I will even be able to take it during my orientation session (June 26-29). I looked through the orientation website and found this:

"An official copy of your AP scores must be on file with the IAE before you may take the UT Austin Test on Texas Government."

I took the AP government test this May, so scores won't be available to the school until mid-July. Does anyone know how strict this regulation is?

If you have taken the AP Gov't exam, make sure that you sign up for the Texas Gov't Only test (30 minute long) that is listed under UT Austin Tests for Credit. It's listed at the bottom of the web page.

<a href="http://www.utexas.edu/academic/mec/cbe/testperiod.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.utexas.edu/academic/mec/cbe/testperiod.html</a></p>

The American Gov't Test listed under Colege Board CLEP Examinations includes American Gov't in addition to Texas Gov't (2 1/2 hours long).

I think I read that it can be taken in the fall also. My s is at orientation starting today and is in the same boat. He's just going to take it later.

If I didn't take the Government AP test, is there still a point to taking the Texas Government test at orientation?

If I took the AP US Gov test, I don't HAVE to take the TX Gov test DURING orientation, do I? Like, I can take it during some later semester and still get credit for it, right?

JUST FYI: i am a sophomore now and took the tx govt test last semester. i also made the mistake of using that online study guide thing. it is a waste of time! i honestly dont think you can study for this test. it is really really random stuff. like what is the govorners salary and stuff. anyway, i also got a 5 on the AP test and i prolly got about 5 out of 20 right on the tx govt test and i still got an A for GOV 310 so dont sweat it much and dont stuff for it much either.

krish: are you saying that you got credit for your government course, or ended up having to take the first semester of government?

i think krish had to take the first sem. of government b/c that is what GOV 310 is. if you get a good enough score on the AP and pass the UT TX govt test, then you skip 310 and go straight into 312.

no i got credit for gov 310 from the Ap test; my point was it doesnt matter how bad you do on the TX govt test if u made a 4 or 5 on the AP test, cuz u'll get the credit. And also, dont worry too much about studying for the TX govt test becuase its only 20 questions and they are too random to study for.

Thanks krishna, very helpful info =)

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to bring it up for new students entering next year (and to clear a few things up myself). I recieved a 4 on AP US History last year. I am going to take the AP test in Gov't this year. I still need to take this Texas Government test, correct? And, if I do okay, I will place out of only Gov 310 or more? Lastly, is the website stated really all you need to study?

Welcome to Texas Politics

Thanks in advance!

Anyone want to help me? I will be eternally grateful.

I'm from oos and you're telling me that Texas government is vital to my education? This sucks.
