I just got a letter in the mail today telling me that I received one of the scholarships that I applied for. It's from a local -- in the sense that it's not national, only New York state -- woman's organization. I'm wondering if I should send a thank you note, and if so who I should send it to, what it should say, etc. Is there some sort of protocol?

I got a local scholarship from a women's organization too! I addressed my thank you note to the woman who signed my letter.

Do they need to be handwritten or is typed ok?

^^ handwritten is more personal. Type it if your handwriting is horrible.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of writing thank you notes for local scholarships. I'll be sure to do that if I win any!

Yes, send thank you notes and it is also nice if you send a letter after a year thanking them again and letting them know how the money helped and how well you are doing in college.

Should I send it in with the forms that I have to fill out?

If the forms are for accepting the scholarship and telling them what college you will be attending, then I think it would be OK to send a thank you along with it. Tell them how you appreciate being selected for the scholarship and how happy you are.
