Thanks Wash U for waitlisting me, guess what, I DO NOT CARE!!!!

"WUSTL about 1/3 to 1/2 jewish." sabnetwork where you getting these figures from???

hillel.org estimates 1800 out of 6772 undergrads = ~27%.

Jeez...people.

I was accepted and I have never been to WashU in my life. I did apply for 3 scholarships, and I'm a finalist for one.

I really don't think that the "I got waitlisted because I never visited" is as big as the P.O'd people on here think it is. Remember, CC represents an EXTREMLY narrow representation of WashU's total applicant pool. It is entirely possible that it is coincidental that so many people on CC were waitlisted.

On the other hand...I am a URM...so I'm probably the reason Dog87 was waitlisted. LOL

Come on now. Dog have fun at Northwestern...shut up about WashU.

dog- i ask you this, how do you know you expressed urself the same way on each application? i know that all my applications were not equal. for example, i missed the interview deadline for MIT and was rejected. on the other hand, i distinctly remember that the columbia app had no slot for AP scores (and mine suck), and i got a "likely" email last week. there is a very real chance that one application may make a particular applicant seem more desirable than another application.

also at least three or four people from my school got into Wash U, and i dont think any of them visited.

i visited and interviewed was waitlisted. just how life goes...washu does what works for them, and it seems that everyone that goes there is a happy camper, so let it go.

im going to try my hardest to get off the waitlist, cause washu IS my number one school and i still think that it is awesome, no matter what happened during the admissions process. Someone said that the admissions office is almost totally different than the actual SCHOOL itself...remember that.

I keep hearing nothing but people saying that WashU puts great emphasis on the applicant's desire to be there (in fact, they said this themselves when I went to visit this past summer). So I have two questions...

1) Wouldn't WashU then have a huge ED acceptance rate, larger than most schools? Wouldn't applying ED greatly boost your chances, more so than at other schools?

2) Besides visiting the campus and applying ED, how do you state your "interest in the school"? People keep saying you do this on the application but I don't see how. Is your essay titled "Why I Love WashU"?

wash u accepted
nw rejected

hope you prefer wash u. nevertheless, CONGRATS!

ParisKM -

They do have a relativley large ED rate - in fact they have 2 ED's, however you have to look at other circumstances. No school will fill their class entirely of ED kids, because they know that there are RD kids that may be extremely interested but cannot afford to risk the financial commitment. Applying ED boosts your chances everywhere, but it doesn't guarantee acceptance.

I don't know if you necessarily show interest through your application, but I know that on my part I made a lot of contact with my admissions rep. (I applied ED1 and was deferred) but I sent them a letter saying I still wanted to go there, one when I switched classes to explain why- which also said that I wanted to go and why. I emailed when I had questions and made sure to go to each appearance that my rep made when he came to my city. Obviously I was interested. Oh, and my essay had nothing to do with it.

I will go with what some people have said that interest does factor in a lot, sometimes over test scores - but you and I both know that college admissions is not a science. It is completely subjective and sometimes it can suck a lot and you will feel like you got screwed over. But it's hard to say exactly why, it is impossible to chalk a rejection or being put on the waitlist up to something as simple and ridiculous as "overqualification". An acceptance requires a mix of different factors as well as a chemistry with the school.

I'm not exactly sure what an admissions rep. is? If I'm right, one is assigned to particular region or city or something. Therefore, I must have one but why don't I know about them or even that I did have one in the first place?

You are - depending on where you live, there is a certain person that is in charge of visiting your area, handling questions from your area, and is the first one that would see your application. You have one from every school. So if anyone from Wash U. was at your school, or held a reception at a hotel in your town, or ran a booth at a local college fair- that was the guy (or girl). You could have also reached them by calling the admissions office and asking for the contact info or a card when (if)you visited.

I don't have any idea why you didnt know about them though....

I love these threads people create where they don't care about getting waitlisted SO MUCH that of course they naturally take the energy and time of day to post about it. Classic. Get used to it... Wash U will soon have a sub-20% admissions rate whether they're "trying to" get it or not. Deal with it.

I also dont understand how people seem to keep overlooking this MANY TOP ELITE SCHOOLS REJECT QUALIFIED APPLICANTS!!! Kids who apply to the top schools almost always have what it takes to get in, and most of them don't (about 90% of them dont). The US World News rankings aren't simply yield, there are many other factors that go into it, so simply increasing yield wouldnt be enough. WUSTL ISN'T DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM OTHER TOP SCHOOLS. So stop your *ing **ing, especially when there are plenty of kids being accepted to WUSTL who are more qualified than many of the "overqualified" cry babies on the waitlist.

Has ANYONE been rejected?!
I think the whole world is on waitlist(including me)! ahahahah

it's interesting that everyone at my school were waitlisted.. except one guy who did ED.. he was jewish.. and one not as qualified girl.. she was jewish.. i digress..

congratulations on ur acceptance to northwestern. i didn't apply to wash u, but it's no biggie being waitlisted. no reason to hold grudges against a school, there are greater things in life for you to think about. whatever happens, happens for a reason. ^_^

find a better excuse for getting waitlisted than being an antisemite...

i'm sorry go48, but was your post referring to my post? i didn't even apply to washu.. i was pointing out an interesting coincidence at my school, and i'm not an antisemite. =) however, i do apologize if i came off that way.

if you were referring to the person who started this thread, i don't think he/she ever expressed any antisemitism.. in fact, i don't think anyone in this thread has

I think this thread has run its course...i wish a mod would close it.

Sigh.

I'm going to Wustl tomorroww btw...so if any of you guys want me to bring back some merchendise thats cool...send your money FIRST!!!

im referring to :
"it's interesting that everyone at my school were waitlisted.. except one guy who did ED.. he was jewish.. and one not as qualified girl.. she was jewish.. i digress.."
what you more or less said is they got in only cause they are jewish... maybe they didnt get accepted cause they were jewish but because WUSTL thought they were qualified ... being jewish didnt make them get in except for the fact that jews place a very high value on good education and therefore they probably worked harder than anybody in ur school to get in.. thats it....

i know these students, and they are not qualified, especially the girl. i was trying to be nice when i said that she was "not as qualified".. in reality, she is one of the dumbest girls i have ever met. she takes easy classes like electronics and ad phys (the lowest level of physics at my school).. her sat 2 writing was in the 500s. i'm not one to say how much it played a role in her admissions, but i personally feel that it did somewhat.. i don't see how that makes me "antisemite". it's like saying girls have a better chance at getting into MIT or caltech...

However, I admit that wash u's admission has been really weird this year. My school is a fairly competitive school, and there are always a ton of Wash U admits every year. It is very surprising, to everyone at the school, that she was the ONLY one to get accepted.

i didn't even apply to this school, which i stated in the post you quoted, yet you told me to "find a better excuse". Even if i did applied, that is still a rude comment.

whatever, i'm done with discussion. i apologized for coming off as an "antisemite", but you seem to not accept it. this is unimportant. have a nice day. =)
