Does anyone know the registration procedure for the Thanksgiving bus that comes up to Springfield, VA? My son went to Moseley today to sign up and they said to sign up online. He went online (and so did I) and there isn't a registration form that I could find. Are we too early? Thanks.

Hi, my son already did it. He had to go to the bursar first to pay the $100 fee and then went to the Moseley Center Front Desk to get his seat. I don’t recall him saying that he did anything online.

Thanks Rockvillemom. I passed on the information to my son. His mission today is to get it done!

What is the Thanksgiving shuttle? Is it a way for kids in the MidAtlantic to get at least part of the way home around the holiday?

Yes. It s a round trip charter bus for $100 that goes from Elon to Springfield, VA. Students who live in DC, MD and VA could be picked up there, or could take Metro to their destination. They will get to Spingfield, VA around 10pm Tuesday evening, so I don’t think it would be a realistic option for someone who lives beyond that area.

There are also shuttles around breaks that go to Greensboro Triad airport and Raleigh Durham airport. I assumed that’s what the OP was referring to. Sign-up for that is online:[Moseley Campus Center - Airport Shuttle Reservations](<a href=“Elon University / Moseley Center”>Elon University / Moseley Center)

Here’s the bus info for Washington DC:

All can be found on the website: Campus Life/Mosely Center/Shuttle & Transportation Services.

Yes, there are lots of shuttles (isn’t Elon great!). My son took the shuttle to the Greensboro airport last Friday afternoon and flew home for Fall Break. He also signed up for the Charter bus that will bring him up to Springfield, VA for Thanksgiving break. Its $100 and I think that’s a great deal.

Is there a similar shuttle before Christmas/the winter holidays?

Notmama - I asked the same question of an admission rep at a get to know you function over the summer and he said no. Thanksgiving is the only time they do the charter bus.

However, they do have the shuttle buses to/from the airports during various breaks.

It would be nice if they did a December shuttle as well! But - students finish on different dates - depending on their exam schedule. So - it wouldn’t really work. With Thanksgiving - everyone is leaving and returning on the same date.

I have asked my son to look into the rideshare website at Elon - called ZimRide - to find a ride home in December if possible.

My older girl went to college at NYU and we live in the Mid-Atlantic area, so as long as we made her Amtrak reservations sufficiently ahead of time (or Bolt Bus), she was able to travel back and forth on holidays at no great expense to us. My younger girl has fallen in love with Elon, and though it’s only an hour away by plane to RDU, I imagine the plane fare during the holiday season gets pretty high, so I was wondering what other options would be, if she is fortunate enough to get admitted. The Thanksgiving shuttle is such a nice thing. Elon seems like the nicest school in the world!

NOtmamarose: if you are in the Baltimore or Philadelphia area, Southwest is the way to go…

If you are in NJ, going to Philly will save you $$…

If you are in Northern NJ or New York Metro, we have found the most success with Delta out of LGA…

and then there is JetBlue out of JFK…

so many options…even for the holidays…

and there was definitely a shuttle to the airports for the December break but not on weekends…no idea this year…

My Freshman S flew home to Philly for fall break, and it all went very smoothly. He flew USAir out of Greensboro (cheapest option.) He was kind of lax about lining up transportation to the airport, but was able to get a ride from 2 hallmates that were heading to Charlotte - no big deal at all to drop him off in Greensboro. He had no prearranged ride back to campus on the return trip, but hooked up with other Elon kids at the airport and they shared a van ride. For Thanksgiving, he is flying USAir from RDU home, and Southwest back - again, we looked for best priced flights. Even during the busiest travel week-end of the year, we didn’t have a problem getting a flight. Between the two NC airports and the 2 carriers, there are plenty of options.

S posted rides to RDU on zimrides for thanksgiving break. also home to NJ central for Christmas break. I think he has had one response for both. If your child needs a ride have them check Zimride. (embrace and others)

Dont forget the Amtrack train from Burlington too. To the northeast the trip is usually 11 hours! But believe it or not my son has done it a few times and said it is not that bad and more comfortable than all the waiting around you do in airports between waiting for shuttles or waiting for flights.
