never considered that the campus could be closed, not sure where we find out about this but I think it’s highly unlikely given the amount of OOS kids staying. DS stayed last year and, after we found the TGiving dinner at the Ferg (i think) it was fine.
If for some bizarre reason they did close campus i think they’d have an alternative dorm set up like they do for other breaks, last year it was Rose Hall.
Nope - I don’t see it happening.
M2k? input???

… Bump …

My D could fly home on Nov 23 at either 9:00 am or 5:00 pm. Question is, what would be the best way for her to get to the airport if we were to choose 9:00 am? What options are available other than getting a ride from a friend? She’d have to leave t-town by 6:30-ish to get to airport an hour early, right (to be safe)?

^^^ Not sure if 348-RIDE will be running shuttles that early in the morning for example?

I also doubt that the campus will be closed…too many OOS students and since the Deans are aware of that… If by some small chance the campus is closed, I am sure that there will be alternatives. I know that last year at Bama Bound I met about ten moms who offered to house my son during holidays. Seriously, everyone I met (who was instate) who had also met him, extended wonderful Southern Hospitality invitations.

The dorms will be open over Thanksgiving, so no worries there. Campus will be VERY empty, but some people, including myself, will be there. I can actually find cheap seats back to SEA for Thanksgiving, but with the Southwest Airlines sale (also matched by other airlines) I can fly back over Fall break for around $200 less.

Dad2ILD, I’d normally book the 5:00PM flight, but there are private shuttle services and likely many students going to BHM early that morning. If there happen to be flights on other airlines or options that involve connections, I’d consider those. That said, call housing and ask them about having an earlier shuttle. Despite words to the contrary, there was an early shuttle offered at the end of the year and UA is offering an early (11:30 am) pick-up from BHM on the 27th.

So there are university shuttles to BHM and private shuttles like B’ham door to door? When do the university shuttles run, is there a schedule.

Here’s a link to the schedule for the UA airport shuttle

[Student Affairs | Housing & Residential Communities](http://housing.ua.edu/on_campus/shuttle.cfm)

Before I book these, are we sure there are no classes on Weds, it says “classes dismissed”
is that like cancelled?

Thinking of a 6 am weds non stop. The non-stop Delta is actually substantially cheaper than the SW with connections. I know the SW is changeable, but Weds-Sun seems low risk for T-day.

Classes Dismissed means that classes are cancelled, or rather not scheduled for that day. UA is open, but few students will be on campus.

The main issue I see with a 6am flight is getting to the airport. Since UA does not run a nearly morning shuttle, the earliest flight I feel comfortable booking when taking the UA shuttle is 10am. I’d like to take the early morning flights and get to Seattle by 11:19am, but it isn’t feasible unless one either has a ride to the airport or spends the night in an airport hotel.

Thanks ST I am checking with bham door2door. The other non-stop is at 2 I think. Now for the UA shuttle, do you need a reservation for that?

While certainly not ideal, one can take the late night greyhound bus from Tuscaloosa to B’ham and then a cab to the airport. You’ll be sitting in the airport for 6 hours but at least you’ll make your 6am flight.

Oh cr*p while I was waiting for b’ham door2door to get back to me, I booked the 6 am non-stop because the other non-stop was really late on Weds nite. They said they don’t pick up that early. Perhaps S will make a friend who won’t mind driving him to b’ham at 4 am or maybe there will be a taxi or something. There were only 2 seats left at a reasonable price so I couldn’t wait. I’m sure it will work out.

ldinct, Delta does have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

When can one begin to book space on the Crimson Ride Airport Shuttle for Thanksgiving?

Not sure, but they will schedule extra shuttles depending in how many sign up. Have never heard of anyone not getting space on a shuttle. We do it about two weeks out.

There is really no need to book the Thanksgiving shuttle more than a month in advance and even then you’re likely to be one of the first ones on the list. As AL34 mentioned, students are guaranteed a spot on their desired shuttle. If enough people sign up for a specific time, UA will use a full size bus rather than a shuttle bus.

If my son takes the 8 am Crimson Ride shuttle, will he be able to make a 10:30 flight, given the holiday security lines?

If his flight gets in at 12:22 pm, will he be able to make the 1:00 pm return Crimson ride shuttle?

He will not be checking luggage.

He should be able to make the 10:30 am flight. If it’s on Wednesday the 23rd, I will likely be on the same flight. I’d recommend that he checks in online and has a boarding pass ready, but he’d likely have enough time to check bags and get something to eat before his flight.

He should be able to make the 1:00 pm shuttle, but if he doesn’t, there is another shuttle 3 hours later. Housing will give him contact numbers which he can call in the event he is running late.

I should mention that BHM recently consolidated all airlines into Concourse C, so security lines will be longer than what we’re used to, but still not as long as some big city airports.

Booked. Thanks, SEA_tide. $308 to Boston on Delta was about half the other airlines, including Southwest. If anyone is looking to book for T-Day, I would take a hard look at Delta NOW! Good connections into Atlanta and you can go just about anywhere from there.

I’m booking my ticket on Delta as I’m typing this. There were even some cheap seats available on Sunday, but I can’t get good flights out of Seattle that day, so I’m flying overnight on Saturday to arrive Sunday morning.
