Do most out of state students stay on campus for Thanksgiving? I noticed that USC has classes on Wednesday and my son has a class Wed. night, making it difficult to arrange flights. With the UCLA game that weekend do you think many will forgo Thanksgiving dinner at their out of state homes?

Your S may find that his Wednesday night class will be canceled fairly last minute. That has been my D’s experience and we’ve had to scramble to change her flights home. He might want to ask about it at the beginning of the semester.

Generally the campus empties out by Tuesday. This is according to my oldest daughter who graduated a year ago. Most professors know that kids are going home and arrangements can be made to make up work, get notes etc.

We are local so we never dealt with this challenge. I do know that we have had several kids from out of state/country at our table for holidays because they couldn’t get off/afford that one extra plane fare.

(My personal favorite memory was going downstairs and seeing two kids sleeping on Friday morning while I went out to the sales. Four hours later when I returned there was a group of kids in my kitchen eating leftovers. Oh, and one was a Bruin…)

But if you want you son home for the holidays it is very doable.

I do not know if the dorms are open on Thanksgiving. That is something that you need to check.

The dorms are open over Thanksgiving. I believe the only time the dorms close are during winter break. The USC owned apartments (Troy, Century, etc) are open even during the winter break.

Dorms are open during Thanksgiving, though I’m not sure if any of the dining facilities are open.

One of the major dining cafeterias will be open, either EVK or Parkside. They don’t want to starve you!
