Well, I've been digging around a bit and have come to the consensus that the vast majority of applicants treated this question like just another text box. It honestly didn't even occur to me that that was the nature of the prompt, so I pretty much wrote an essay; I thought it was nice. So now I'm wondering, am I alone? sigh What'd everyone else do for it?

I had some “leftover” essays that I had done for common application but had ended up not using, and used that as the intro to it. But the rest was written in more of a text box manner like listing and describing activities.

Listed and described, too. The fact that the supplement explicitly phrases the question as “if not already detailed on the Common App” seemed to suggest a more literal, matter-of-fact appraoch.

Nope, not alone. Son started with a list, then turned it into an essay. I think it was the word/character limit that made it sound like it should be an essay. I think it’s all about showing yourself in the best light…I doubt there is a wrong way based on how their Dean answered questions at the info session we went to.

Mine was very concise and matter-of-fact

Thanks, all. It would appear I’m not entirely alone… Now it’s time for me to regret the two adjectives I chose :)

I just wrote two linear paragraphs detailing each summer. I couldn’t figure out how to make it an essay without it sounding fake and incredibly boring, so…

I wrote a run on sentence, lol

^ pretty much what I did lol.

Like MommyDearest said…
I initially started with a list, but then I saw the word count and how much space they give you on the actual app (look at Preview). A list looked really awkward with all that extra space.

So I ended up writing a three paragraph essay.

Oh and just thought I’d let you all know that I got in SCEA.

Side note: Plus, everyone I PERSONALLY know who got in (friends, people on the admitted portal, etc.) in also wrote paragraphs.

Take that however you want. You should be fine with both.

@ivymania, that’s exactly what I did, so that’s reassuring. Thank you, and congratulations on your acceptance!! That’s awesome. :)
