The 20+ Hours Club

I figured I'd start a thread for those of us who are taking 20+ hrs. Something to keep us motivated. I'm taking 22 hrs, paying for my own apartment and working part time and after my first week of school I feel ready to explode. Here's my schedule:

trigonometry
english literature: pre 1600
western civilization: pre enlightenment
art history: pre gothic
spanish 1
american government
speech communication

My goals: I'd like to make all A's, just to see if it's possible.
Good Luck to all!

My question. Why? Why put yourself through all of this?

College is supposed to be fun. Not a big chore. Or maybe you're doing this b/c you're trying to graduate early or something like that?

You don't want to graduate early. Then you will need a job and it will be as hard if not harder than your current schedule. Enjoy college. It is smart to challenge yourself and work hard, but methinks you have taken it past the limit. Seven classes! This is not high school anymore.

Now here's my question... what does "20 hours" mean? At my school, units are assigned based on the total number of hours you're supposed to spend in class + in lab + on homework, so most classes are 12 units. What is a typical class at other schools, in credit hours?

Most classes are 3, maybe 4 credit hours.

"Why put yourself through all of this? College is supposed to be fun."

I like to think that when the semester ends I can look back and think that I've accomplished something very few students have. Fun? I'm having no less fun than I was last semester when I was taking 14 hrs. It's all about time management.

You are pompous! What goal do you have through this post other than to make yourself feel "more accomplished" in comparison to others? There should be a bragging section for those who wish to display their hubristic behaviour.

There is far too much in life to enjoy.

If you're ready to explode already you should drop some classes. It'll only get worse as the year goes on.

When I hear about students talking about their huge schedules, I always wonder what courses are being taken. The rigor and difficulty of each course should be taken into account.

Also I'm assuming it is a state school? I'm not even sure my college offers Trigonometry. I think you need to take Calc I first semester.

^Yea, that confused me too, I took trig in 9th grade.

That's the same schedule I had freshman year......of high school.

Well that's nice. But I hope you're still taking advantage of the college experience in general. You can only accomplish so much with academics. There's more to accomplish in life other than credit hours.

I don't think state schools have a monopoly on easy classes... =P
