How are you putting up with sleep deprivation? LUVIN it?

define tough colleges. I'm not sure if you would call my college touch.
I'm at UCLA and competition is rough in my opinion, but not as much as my friend who is in Engineering. I thought I was having it hard in history major, but NOOOOO. My friend said in engineering, 3.5 is near impossible in his opinion and competition more fierce than my major.
Sleep deprivation.... not really. It's more like... you have readings...A LOT OF READINGS. The readings are a total pain the ass and sometimes take many hours just to finish but never gets in the way of your sleep time if you start early.

Yeah, it's 4 AM and I'm only getting started.

Dont ask. sometimes I think I've turned into a vampire. Waking up all night and sleeping like 5 hours from 7-12 pm. I kind of alread lost the distinction between night and day.

I think this thread was meant for you to agree that tough colleges are tough, while others have it good, and that you're hard work in applying to these colleges came to nought.

You don't have to be sleep-deprived at tough schools. I'm a double-major at MIT, I work 20 hours a week, and I still manage to get almost 8 hours of sleep a night.

Time management, people.

molliebatmit,

That's the key phrase, isn't it? Too bad for some of us, time management means, "next episode of Lost."

By the way, I did a major, minor, worked 30 hours a week, graduated magna cum laude, and got 6-8 hours of sleep.

It can be done.

I go to W&M, and am still able to get about 6-8 hrs of sleep a night. Just don't take early morning classes!

lmao mollieb! I think you remove a certain variable from that equation.

I could never do all that and still get the 8 hours. I find a major and a minor, ~20 hours work per week more than enough. Sure I could manage my schedule a little better, but if I packed another class in, there would be no way in **** that I could get that sleep every day. :p That's my way of saying, you're smart XD

I sleep less now that I'm OUT of college.

Weird.

Saying it can be done is slightly misleading. It can be done, but not always by everybody.

There are some people who can take 100 units of class (which means missing many lectures) and ace every one of them. Sure it can be done, but definitely not by me :p

Yeah, it can be done by some. I'm not one of them. The few times I've actually managed my time well, I've ended up depressed as hell. I think I may be addicted to the satisfaction of waiting till the last minute and then still getting the grades.

molliebat: your not an mit cheerleader are u?

i can usually get enough sleep, but it really depends on what my classes are doing. In the days before tests, i get much less sleep than I normally would. As long as i work hard throughout the day, sleep really isn't an issue. The real issue is working hard throughout the day!

Haha, I should add that I have a lot of self-discipline, and that "getting 8 hours of sleep a night" often means "homework on Saturday night" -- but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. :)

surfed_pipeline -- Actually, I am. Any particular reason you ask?

ok so yea im a big procrastinator and not very good at time management - constantly sleep deprived - i got 3 hrs last night bc i was doing a lab report we had 3 weeks to do , which i started at 12 AM the night before...2 days before that i had pulled an all nighter for an orgo exam....im sure i could get plenty of sleep if i was more organized, even though school is not exactly a cakewalk...

I currently have an A at Rochester (which is notorious for grade deflation) as a biomedical engineering/political science double major and I go to bed at 12 each night and wake up at 8:45...
Now my roommate on the otherhand (who annoys the heck out of me) stays in the room while I am sleeping as he does work and using my brain, I figured out a way to find out what time he goes to bed and he goes to be between 3:30-4:30 each night and wakes up at 8:55 for a 9:00 class (He does not wake up to his alarm, nor does he wake up to mine and I refuse to wake him up (has missed 3 classes in the past two weeks) since he keeps me up at night when he is doing work in the room even though I politely asked him to go to the library if he wants to do work at night. Additionally he is in my chem class and he cannot stay awake.. I wonder why)

i think my brother knows u.

To anyone having one of those sleepless nights, I feel yah. Back in highschool was just so chill and it feels like such a long time ago now. Those days when you worked every blue moon and the only book you took up was the telephone directory to get delivery on a Friday night cuz no one wanted to cook.

Anyone still find time to do the old simple stuff like watch movies, keep up with your favorite show, take afternoon naps and stuff like that?

surfed, are you talking to me?
What's his name?
