THE 2008 ED Thread

any idea when we definitely find out??

Does anyone know for sure?

it seems like from what people are saying:

the 7th of december: emails are sent out

the 15th of december: letters are sent out/ copies of the illiad if you are accepted.

its coming up....

Oh man, oh man, oh man.
Apparently I have an interview on Saturday. Certainly wasn't expecting that so late in the game. Advice, anyone? And is it true what someone mentioned earlier? About decisions being made this week/early next week?

decisions emailed monday the 10th, according to an admissions officer.

Darn it, Monday, positively? That's the day my transcript/form requests are due for Jan 1st deadline. I'd rather wait until I get my ED decision back before I waste $30 on the requests.

i can believe the email send outs being postponed to the 10th as opposed to the usual 7th since applicant rates have had a huge upsurge this year..

but can anyone else second that? or bluelions12 did you actually speak with an AO? i would like to be sure so that an email doesnt all of a sudden creep up on me on the 7th and give me a heart attack. thanks.

i shalt not tell a lie. given that there were so many applicants this year, it's going to be the 10th (and let's be happy with that... most of our friends will find out on the 15th haha)

and from my searches it seems that decisions usually coem out thursdays... can anyone double check?

thats what i thought too..but it seems like its going to be the 10th this year...which is a monday.

not quite sure if i am relieved or angry that it is a bit later this year..half of me wants to find out asap and another half of me is terrified to death. its a complicated emotion.

bluelions12: Do you have any specific data on the applicants ED this year(specifically the engineering school)? Last year, I was really surprised to see the ED rate for the engineering school drop from approximately 50%->30%. Are there even more than the ~400 which applied to the engineering school ED last year?

i was kinda hoping for next thursday too, i want to get it over with i'm tired of waiting. but apparently someone else talked to an admissions officer and he or she said that it was the 11th. so who knows when it actually is.

I am waiting too!
If rejected, I have to prepare more apps, and wait even longer.....

haha yeah we're all on the same boat. i'm dreading working on them... i've finished off most of the actual forms.. i just have to do the essays (which i REEAAALLLY don't want to do). and i feel like i've caught senioritis already... i stopped caring i don't know what's wrong with me i've gotten SO LAZY. ugh. any suggestions? haha

there's nothing wrong with senioritis.. and there's no cure

i know a kid who applied to Columbia Engineering (Fu foundation school of engineering and applied sciences) E/D...apparently he's related to Fu...his great uncle or something.

lucky kid.

^wow, what a first post

Isn't the essay part the most difficult one? Let alone 'Why this university?' blah...

Does wanting to major in an unusual area help your application? I've seen a lot of wannabe Chemistry/Physics majors, but I'd like to major in Modern Greek studies and that's pretty unusual, I'd say. But they need people to fill that slot, right? Do we all get grouped in together? Or are there separate "pools?"

^unlikely...
