THE 2008 ED Thread

Because of Columbia's core curriculum, majors aren't taken so much into consideration. It basically takes both freshman and sophomore year to complete. Applicants are separated into various 'pools' but not based on major. For example legacy applicants are placed in a different pool (more of a pile actually) than international applicants.

is that better for you jhl?

I totally agree with Carou...
I've gotten so lazy after Columbia application
and whenever i sit down to write essay for others, I keep daydreaming about CU. and end up not wanting to write for anyone else..

Also, I had NO idea that the notification could be earlier than the 15th.
Nor did I know that it is also sent out by e-mails too

just. wow.
I think I have a headache.

There was an article in today's NY Times saying that predictably, EA schools like Georgetown and Yale has noticeable increases in apps due to HP ending early (10 and 18 percent, respectively), but that ED schools such as Columbia, Dartmouth, and Brown reported only a modest increase. I think a modest increase wouldn't push back the email date by a few days, but I could be wrong...

kpuck9, i think you're right.

I just called and asked the admission office
We will get the email on December 15.
So I guess I'll have to wait till then.

lami, are you serious!? that sucks. ugh, i was looking forward to next week, like i've said, i'm tired of waiting, and the later the admit date, the less time i have to work on other apps if i get rejected. why are they pushing the date so much further behind than usual? (usually it's a week earlier). i'm so bummed!

I totally agree with sujinhan. I was working on my University of Texas at Austin app yesterday and I was thinking about CC the whooooooooole time.

same here...i can't concentrate on rest of my applications.....can anyone confirm the ED date?

Hrm I remember this time last year the only thing distracting me from my impending CC decision was ZELDA TWILIGHT PRINCESS. Muahahha... when the mail came, I read it 3 times and went back to playing Zelda ;)

Of course when my parents saw the letter they had to drag me to eat.

Lami, did the person specifically 'on December 15th'? Or 'by Dec. 15'? Columbia usually gets out the decision a week before other ivies, it would be weird to have decision come out so late. The wait will kill me first!

Has anyone heard from William and Mary about early decision? I heard they send them out by December 1.

truazn8948532,
why would you read the e-mail three times.
I would read it 300 times if i were you.

:)

Oh, it might have been by Dec 15..or on Dec 15.. I'm not sure..
I was just concentrating too much on the number "fifteen."

It should be by.. they kept on saying by mid december

yeah it must be by... dec 15 is too late, and its not like they got so many more apps this year.. only a "modest" increase. so i suppose everyone's going to be checking their email like crazy next week! haha, i changed my settings on gmail so that they wouldn't show the beginning of the message...i'd rather read it all at once not just read the first sentence and either be a) elated or b) depressed before seeing it all

oh god the anticipation is driving me insane. i alternate between mad hopes and fear auhhhhhh... man i really hope the emails are sent out by december 6

Why December 6? I mean, I hope they're sent out as close to now as possible, but does the 6th have any special significance?

Upsilamba:
December 6th is the first Thursday in December, which is historically(from the last two years) when the decisions are emailed out.

So what is the final answer? December 6? 11? 15? It would be pretty cool if CC actually clarified this whole matter.

Does it matter? You would be checking your inboxes all of next week anyway.
