Seeing as some people have decided they want other threads to stay on topic, here's a new thread to discuss the Olympics.

haha, sometimes people take what I say waaayyy to seriously.

Good idea, though I probably have a few better things to do than sit on CC while watching the olympics all night. you never know....

what's better than watching the olympics and talking on CC until midnight?? ;) with your best friends shoe, canuck, and db?!

absolutely nothing is better!

I had to go to go shopping for dorm stuff today. Ughh, I need to watch some unadulterated sporting events to get the stank off.

I still can't get over that Men's 4x100 Free. I must have rewinded the last 50 meters ten times. Jason Lesak looked like he was flying out of the water at the end. Bernard must feel like crap now after his "The Americans? We’re going to smash them. That’s what we came here for." Go back to France.

On the whole age controversy:

Canada comes to defence of tiny, too-perfect gymnasts

Well the dispute concerns whether some of the Chinese girls are a couple of years below the limit, not like 11. And plus unless they all had plastic surgery or something their faces seem to fit. (If you read other articles.)

My two cents, from reading online.

haha. Actually I don't have anything at all to do today. I worked on my car all morning (I am really into SQ car audio) and I have no plans tonight.

I'll probably just go to the gym and come home and watch the Olympics, LOL. I should probably make like vistany and actually worry about things I'll be bringing to school and having to deal with.

OMG - jask925 - that race was insane - i was screaming so loud when it finished - insane absolutely insane! lol

It's going to be an all out war to get control of my TV tonight. But I can't stay up all night, I have a walk-through/tour of a PCB production site tomorrow morning, goo.
And that 4x100 was crazy. Just crazy. Then again, the 4x200 was fun to watch and just point and laugh at the others.

i bought linens and towels. that's it! and then i remembered i might also need to buy paper, pens, and the like so I went to Staples.

and now my mom was like let's go do some dorm shopping and I was like ARE YOU SERIOUS?! and she was so confused and I said THE OLYMPICS ARE ON AT 8 WOMAN! and then she looked at me and said that since I called her woman I need to go dorm shopping right now. otherwise she'll take my credit card. :( and then my sister was like I want to go to a movie. at 6:50. my family is trying to give me a heart attack.

i'll be late tonight. someone get a synopsis ready.

haha the 4x200 was COMPLETE U.S. DOMINATION. in fact, the men's relays=USA ALL THE WAY.

db123 -- dorm shopping so early? Even if there were no Olympics on? :p

Do any of y'all know how far is an office supply shop to be located from Grounds? I mean, the bookstore prices are generally the highest, right?

(I haven't bought a lot of things because I anticipate shopping around Charlottesville and I need to minimise my baggage.)

No idea about a local office supply store. If you just need basic stuff you aren't going to get ripped off by the bookstore, it is quite convenient.

You could probably get most of your stuff from Kroger, which is a bus ride or a 30min walk away. I think there is a bus that goes to Staples, but you shouldn't need anything from there. The bookstore isn't terrible about marking up school supplies, so if you need something just get it there, but Kroger is probably cheaper in the long run, so if you have to go, you might as well pick stuff up.

How long a drive is it to Staples?

10-20min, depending on traffic

those chinese gymnasts are younger than 16. i think one had a tooth missing. although, the US had the chance to win, but they screwed up.

i heard in their huddle they said "no fear. no excuses." no excuses.

A missing tooth is damning evidence, surely.

The bottom halves of my first two canines are made of artificial material -- I cracked them when I had a violent trip while running that caused me to black out. (It was a combination of filling stuff and some other harder, long-lasting stuff that would be good for artificial teeth. I don't know what chemicals they used actually. You can say it was a dentist equivalent of a good hack.) It was windy, cold and I can't remember whether I blacked out before I fell or after. And I'm not even a dedicated athlete.

i'm not trying to be offensive. i think the age thing is kind of stupid so if they won they won. but come one they don't look 16. it's all over the news, ESPN, TIMES.

A 2006 biography from the local sports bureau where He was registered gave her date of birth as January 1, 1994, which would make her 14. A story earlier this year in the China Daily, the country's largest English-language newspaper, also reported that she is 14 years old. Another local-level competition roll had the date of birth of Jiang, who is only 32 kg (70.5 lbs.), as October 1, 1993, making her also 14. And from 2004-2006, the biographical data for Yang on the State General Administration of Sport's website listed her date of birth as August 26, 1993, one year later than what Beijing Olympic records show.

Of course this isn't exclusive to China. it's been evident in US sports and around the world in general. but the three girls were not 16.

i love the olympics and I think China has been a great host.
