The 2008 Olympics

Tom Hammond is about as colorful as they come.

It's going to be like this basically.

"This is Tom Hammond!!! It's going to be an extremely exciting day! We have a fantastic lineup for the USA team and it's going to be great!!! There are going to be records shattered and tears flowing! The race is 8 hours away but be sure to watch the pre-race show with me, Tom Hammond! Back to you, Bobbbbbbbbbbb!"

But Marv Albert is still the best. This is Maaaarrrvv Alberrrrrttt...! Liiiivvvee at the Gaaaaarden! In Newww Yooork! For thrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! And it's goooooooooood! What a shot!!!!!! It counnnnnnts AND the foul!!! YES!!!! A spec-TAC-ular shot!!! I can't believe it!!!

Haha, I just found out that Phelps went to the same high school as my roommate. And did you all see his last race? Setting a record of records is one thing, but which is the sweeter victory? To finish far ahead of your opponents, or clinch that seventh medal by a hundredth of a second?

Ugh, I can't believe that the serbian is protesting Phelp's victory! Don't be a sore looser!

Edit: Good, they were shot down :)

db:
Obviously I need to be more careful in choosing the words for my posts. :)

Ah, I was hoping we had an Olympic track star in our midst. ;)

hahaha HHD, it's all good. If you are indeed a track star, it would be even better.

I, unfortunately, will not be able to watch Phelp's race tonight :( I'm hoping I can, but I'm going to a concert down in C'ville that will probably last past 10, and it's on the Downtown Mall. So, good luck Phelps! I'm sure we'll all be chatting about the remainder of the games and hopefully a historical moment that shall hopefully happen tonight!

GO USA!!!

And, as always: I hope China people fall into puddles! And, just remember, we owned you in gymnastics. Nastia is nasty in 'nastics! (ooh alliteration haha) And basketball, both genders. And swimming. And beach volleyball.

Absolutely amazing! Eight Gold medals! Congrats Phelps!

i can't believe all the NBC people have been pronouncing Beijing incorrectly. it's bay jing not bay zheeing lol. i also hate the NBC copyright on all the coverage. nothing is getting on youtube :(

These guys pronounce it perfectly.

Bela's baaaaaaaack!

So I got out of my concert at Charlottesville Pavillion around 10:45 and my friend and I were walking back along the mall and noticed a group of people standing around a window. At the first glimpse of a TV, we pressed ourselves against the window waiting for the swim, and that time seemed like an eternity. Then, they did it! I was jumping up in down haha everyone on Downtown Mall was going crraazzyy and shouting "USA! USA!" it was such a great moment. At this point, even if we come up short of the most medals, Phelps and the gymnastics girls have made history. In four years, and I'm sure many years after, they'll be referring to their historical moments for the USA. I think that's enough for us :)

PS- C'ville is beautiful and I can't wait to be back :)

Great day for UVA as we racked up *1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals *- all from rowing!

It's great to root for one's country but could we have fewer acidic remarks on other countries'teams?

yeah guillaume, we'll try. most of those were made in the heat of the moment or are continuing jokes (like dirty puddles). none of us really hate any other countries. :) and we do admire those that are excellent in their respective fields. Props to China in diving. and as much as jamaica is kicking our butt in track and field, we still respect their runners and their country. There would be more comments on them, but none of us have been on over the past few days so the comments are fewer. It's just when cheating (or suspected cheating) comes in, that we get riled and start to hope that people fall in dirty puddles.

Sure Guillaume, I assume by your name that you are french, sorry.

db, I got my MacBookPro today after traveling 8 hours to Richmond yesterday and it is great :)

ahhh isn't it amazing?!! i have the 15 inch. i got mine the day I was leaving for India this summer and unfortunately, my fans make a little extra noise. So, I'm slightly bummed. I don't have enough time to send it in for repair because it takes like 2-3 weeks and I move in 5 days!!! :D:D all my household laptops are being used atm, so I think I may send it in late September/early October.

nvm, as I typed that my fan went crazy loud so I'm on the phone with Apple. The guy I'm talking to is really nice and he's offering to switch out this laptop with a new one if they can't fix my problem over the phone. :) I like this customer support. And I like that offer, esp since I missed the swapping out time frame by like 2 weeks. Now Dell would do something completely different...

Canuck, you guessed right. But I've been in the US a long time and I like to root for both countries. We just have to keep in mind that a lot of international students read this board and we don't want to send the wrong message about UVA students. :)

For sure Guillaume, it's a very valid point. As a matter of fact, my family is Canadian, American and British, so I cheer for a few teams too.

db, it really is great! And Apple is really wonderful with their Tech Support. I had a problem with my old iBook a couple of years ago, and they replaced the whole thing. They said "we're not going to waste your time trying to fix it, we'll just replace it".
