Hello everyone! So the ACTs just came out, and I recently checked my score. I'm ecstatic about my scores (Except for science). Does Emory look at the ACT composite score, or do they look critically at the individual sections, especially considering I want to major in biology?

@BenPM35: composite I’m sure, but shouldn’t you have AP/IB/college class scores to prove your ability in science if you’re worried about that.

I honestly doubt Emory pays much attention to incoming intended major. I mean think about how many students come in “sure” they’ll be premed or pre business and leave with a major in something like art history, psych (non premed track), environmental science, etc.

That makes sense. And @bernie12 I have taken one science AP before, which was Physics B (10th grade). I got a 3, and an 86 in the class. But The end of last year was a little hectic for me, as I found out that I needed some pretty major surgery. As for this year, I am taking Bio, which I’m confident I will get either a 4 or a 5, and at least a 92 in the class. And I got a 95 in Chemistry Honors in 9th grade, and I’m taking AP chem. next year

@BenPM35 : Yeah, whenhen is right and also, I’m not all that judgemental man…you don’t need to explain a score/grade to me (and good for you, there was a class that actually challenged you in HS. It wasn’t some giant snooze/cruise fest 100% of the time). I don’t really care and physics is not your interest. Your interest is the natural sciences so try to take courses and do as well as you can in them. Don’t just worry about your performance in the coursework/AP exams, try to show that you are actually passionate about certain academic disciplines/hobbies by participating in EC’s that allow you to gain experience in such areas (this will help you stand out and show a passion for learning something that stretches beyond the classroom). That is much more important than declaring and showing strength in your intended major (which is probably not paid much attention to unless you come off as some humdrum pre-med prospect).

I know what you mean. Thanks so much! I actually just started as an attending for my local EMS, plus I have my whole medical history that is way too complicated to explain. I hope that I am a strong candidate for acceptance when the time comes next year. Thanks again for all the help! But should I be overly concerned with the Science sub-score? Or will they most likely look over it? (I got above a 33 on the other three sections)

Dude chill…the composite is fine…get excited about your college prospects…

haha, ok, thank you!
