The annual what-to-bring thread

You can call and have the beds lofted so you don’t need to buy extensions if you want. The beds can be at 3 levels.
-Low like a regular twin
-Raised up so a dresser fits under or
-High enough so the desk and hutch can go under.

What Lakemom said. When you first arrive for orientation, the bed will be in a high position. Not the highest (the one where it’s lofted high enough to be about your desk), but higher than a typical twin bed. There’s plenty of room under the bed in this setting. You don’t need to buy the extensions.

Buying a doorstop is helpful though - the door swings closed if it isn’t propped open.

What PN said about the doors :)

The doors are fire doors so they are heavy and intended to swing closed. Don’t buy a wimpy doorstop (like I did). Look for one that will hold a heavy door open.

D never used lifts, but was able to store lots of stuff under the bed. Probably a good foot-plus off the floor

Besides a doorstop, purchase a welcome mat that CATCHES dirt and water - doesn’t just let it go through. My guy (and his roomie) were quite thankful we brought one along (purchased at Wally World and even Made in the US). He said others went out to get one when they saw how useful theirs was at keeping the floor clean and dry.

Walmart and Target are both in Henrietta, less than 10 minutes away on either Henrietta Road. It’s chain store world.

We ordered the fridge for delivery at that Walmart, unloaded everything, then went and got that and whatever other stuff was necessary.

Thanks for all the info! Keep telling us more! Kid has been tripled like many many others this year.

Has anyone needed more book space? What about getting a small book shelf for the top of the dresser? Does anyone stack dressers with roommates dresser for more floor space?

Dressers are heavy. And how do you get at the clothes on top? Rooms are big, but it might be fun to see how much stuff has been stacked on other stuff.

You can get a cheap bookend or pair of to collect books. Not a big deal; they sell those at CVS so it’s just an errand.

Good point Lergnom. The dressers are only 30" high, but doubled would make it hard to see what was in that top drawer.

my two guys have both needed a bookshelf -for books and misc (coffee cups, snacks, etc). Tall and narrow to maximize floor space.

Looks like there are no mirrors in the room? Has anyone found an easy to transport, easy to attach mirror for the wardrobe? Thanks. I am trying to be organized in what we can preorder/arrange with roommates/bring from home lists.

There are some over-the-door robe hooks that will work on the wardrobes. Use picture frame wire to hang the mirror. Worked for D.

Over the door robe hooks are useful for tons of things. Get a couple. D2 used to hang wet jackets/coats/umbrellas on the hook instead of hanging them inside the wardrobe. Keeps the rest of your clothes from getting all soggy. Also good for wet towels.
