So, what's the difference between "academic honors" and "interests and activities"

On the commonapp, they say things like "national honors society" as an academic honor. So what about scholarships and governors school and girls state etc etc?

Well to me, academic honors means like an award, which is usually a one time thing (or once a year, like say, an award for having the highest GPA that year) while interests and activities are ongoing, like playing tennis or being in an orchestra.

I think National Honors Society would count as both. Scholarships would count as honor, unless it included some kind of extended activity (like an internship).

Yea, anything that's literally an honor or an award, just put it in academic honors. Nobody minds very much where you put anything.
I think I even put down a debate award as an academic honor. No biggie.

I put national merit semifinalist...and an award for photography. It's not quite academic but since it was called a "scholastic" award, it was kinda iffy.

But Gov School happens over the summer. Unless you didn't get selected for Governor's School, I would put down Governor's School under the summer activities because once you put that down there, they can assume that you were nominated by your school. Plus, it makes your summer more interesting, lol. Otherwise, a nomination would count as a scholastic honor, I guess.
