g'day y'all
so i gather there isn't a lot of information out there for those from down under, and fo sho i know i had a tough time when i was applying. however somehow i got myself to an ivy league institution and wanted to reach out to help fellow aussies. any questions, concerns etc. are welcome i shall try to help as much (and as often, as time constraint allows me) :)

of course, other antipodeans are also welcome to ask!

hey! i’m also in australia and wanting to apply to america too. i’m not aiming for the ivy league though, but my dream school is in the top 20 as well. what did you get for your SAT?

Hey, well done Taralee!! Which school are you at? Are you class of '15?

I’ve already been accepted into the NYU Stern School of Business, yet I’m still waiting to hear back from the Ivies (I’ve applied to all of them haha). Harvard is the dream though I’ve wanted to go there since year 6!

I’m also able to help with questions for those who have them :)

@lilbighead and Australia: I’m class of '14. I had one sitting of SATs and scored between the 2350-2400 bracket (I won’t get more specific).

Congratulations on NYU and Good luck with tomorrow 2pm, Australia Perhaps if you get admitted to my school I shall have a little prefrosh welcoming gathering back in Australia, if you are in Sydney or in its vicinities. Until then, I shall remain the daddy-long-legs of aussiekins Let me know how you go.

Im jealous, im also from australia and want to go to a good US uni for 2011 but its a massive uphill battle for me with weaker SAT 1s and need for FA lol

G’day guys! From Sydney and I’m applying for college in 2012, hopefully I get into one of the Ivies. I’ve sat my SAT 1s and i’ve got my 2s in May.

I’ve read that Harvard and Princeton have brought back their Early Action programs. If you apply EA can you still apply to all the other schools for Regular Decision? Also, is it better to apply to my dream college (Harvard) EA or a more realistic option? I was thinking that if i know I’m in to any college by mid December, I won’t have to worry about starting uni at all in Australia. Thoughts?

don’t worry too much, pingpond! you have plenty of time to resit SAT Is - and you’re generally fine for the top ivies as long as you get 2250+ or thereabouts. and they’re generous with finaid, definitely! so don’t let that deter you!

bhaggy: definitely. only ED is binding. and choosing schools for your ea depends on your goals. are you planning to sit your school leaving exam, or is your goal to get an early definite response and quit school early? i know two girls from sydney who were admitted in year 11 and didn’t have to sit her hsc (two subsequent/ different years, very recent)! if the latter, i suggest you apply for something reach-y but more likely. :)
