This thread is for the Bangladeshi community at CC to post anything that you want to share...

About time too that a Bangladeshi thread got rolling! Any Bangladeshis on CC, do take the time to introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have.

I am studying economics at NUS and just finished my first year here. Applied to US colleges a couple of years back which is how I got to be in CC :)

Looking forward to hearing from other Bangladeshis out there.

I applied to NUS this year, but have not received my outcome of admission yet. So how is Nus? I applied to few US colleges too, but was not accepted, so if NUS doesnot work out, I will try again next year.

Hello BB012 - looks like we're all much of an NUS gang here, because I too applied to NUS and am still waiting. Two people I know already got theirs - but I heard we have to check after June 5th, possibly all the results will be up by then. Good luck.

i'm from BD also...going to Clark University this fall as long as I get my visa...good luck to those waiting for NUS decisions

About time this thread should appear. I am from BD, going to Colgate if VISA works.

Haha I have appled to NUS to but haven't got decision yet

Hi Missz....It says on the NUS brochure that we should expect to receive decisions from May--Mid July. So some of us may have to wait for some time now. They told to check the online application status after June 5, as those outcomes that have been given before June 2 will be reflected there.

Btw, does anyone know whether NUS has the option of deferred admission like most US Colleges? I missed the scholarship deadline this year for NUS and can't apply for it before next year!

das222 did you get aid in Colgate?

BB012: I believe NUS does have the option of deferred admission, since many Singaporeans apply to NUS, do two years of National Service before starting their studies here. You should probably ask the admissions office though whether it is possible in your case.

Btw you mean financial aid and not scholarship right? Because NUS does not have any scholarships for first-year Bangladeshi students.

BB012 - As far as I know, they keep the deadline time upto mid July for the people who gave A levels in Jan and thus submit their results later, or for people who were waitlisted. Not that they'll tell you if you're waitlisted - my friend last year got a rejection in May and then accepted later in July, two weeks before she was scheduled to go to Wellesley; she was too angry about it to change her decision then.

I know someome who already is in NUS, who spoke to one of the admission officials. At first she just repeated the official deadline, but upon further pressing, she said their plan was to send them all out by the end of May.
As for the June 5 thing, I am not basing that on the notice they gave to the SG applicants about when to check their online acceptance. Its just that after May 28-29, when about two-three Bangladeshis got in, another person got worried and emailed the admission people. He asked them why the others already got in though he had applied at the same time as them, so when could he expect a result? They asked him to check after June 5th.

Anyway - this is all second hand information, except for the bit about my friend that talked to the admission officer in person. It is possible that the one who emailed got a wrong deadline of June 5 if they didnt realise he was an international, and thought he was an SG student.
Either way, we'll know soon enough if the info was right or wrong, eh?

Yeah, I meant Financial Aid. Thanks for the information.

By the way, I have heard from a few friends that Whitman College is not much
interested in admitting Bangladeshi students. Is that true? :(

I got into NUS today.

I'm Indian and am just snooping around, but congratulations :).

Thanks a lot :)

Hey Congrats!! So what are you planning to study in NUS?

BB012: yes mate almost a full ride.(couldn't attend otherwise)

MissZ: congrats. My status is still application processing!

das222: Full ride! cool man...congrats!
MissZ: When did you apply to NUS...I mean did you apply early or just before the application deadline (March 28)?

Thanks :) BB012 and das222... I'm planning on studying Life Sciences - I'm interested in Biotechnology. And I applied around Jan 5th. I don't suppose it matters much - one of the ppl I know that got in applied a week or two before the deadline.

Congrats on Colgate, das222. Hope those who are looking for visas get them - It'll be my turn soon enough.

thanks, both of u
