But if you fill out the contract and DON’T pay the deposit, nothing happens except you lose your number, right? So is there any real harm in filling it out?

If you don’t pay it and then end up attending FSU, it wouldn’t surprise me if they put a hold on your account until you paid it.

I’m not sure what the standard policy is if you did that, but do understand that you are signing a contract, that says that if you attend FSU, you will pay for a room on campus. It wouldn’t surprise me if they ended up trying to get at least your deposit out of you if you tried to pull a fast one.

No I’m not pulling anything! I just want to know what would happen if:

1) I fill out the contract, say, tomorrow, get my priority number, and don’t pay the deposit right away.

2) Two days later, I get accepted somewhere else and decide I prefer that school to FSU.

3) I decline my acceptance, say goodbye to FSU, and never pay the deposit.

Would I get in trouble?

No. If you don’t attend FSU, you aren’t obligated to pay anything for housing.

If you pay your deposit however, and don’t attend FSU, you will likely forfeit at least a portion of it, depending on when you notify FSU Housing that you won’t be attending.

So if you aren’t really serious about going to FSU, I wouldn’t even bother applying for Housing, unless you were within the 10 days of finding out whether you got accepted elsewhere, so that if you ended up going to FSU you could pay your deposit and not lose your priority number.

My priority number is 1031 for summer, what would be my chances at a hall like gilchrist, broward, jennie murphee, or reynolds? Or should i say goodbye to those hopes and get set that I’ll end up in DeGraff?

My fall number is #561, I’m crossing my fingers for Reynolds, Jennie Murphee or Broward. What would you say the chances are?

Wildwood is a great dorm that is very close to the stadium. But, this also means you will have to hear the band practice every saturday morning in the fall (:

Hey, don’t put Chiefs down! Haha, just kidding, but I am quite loyal to the Marching Chiefs - The Best Damn Band in the Land!

If my two best friends got really low numbers (200-400) and I got 6701 (I know, HORRIBLE) is all hope lost? They both applied for a Quad in Wildwood (as did I) and they told me that at orientation it is possible to request a transfer so I could be in the same Quad as them. The plan is, assuming they receive a Quad in Wildwood: is that they would request me in them. Can this work?

It can, but don’t get your hopes up. If they get a quad in Wildwood (which I believe is VERY unlikely… I’m not sure that Wildwood actually has quads), in order for you to get housed with them, they would have to convince one of their other roommates to agree to swap with you, with whatever assignment you get, and then it has to be approved by both Hall coordinators (Wildwood and wherever you are assigned), and I believe also by FSU Housing.

If your friends have done their housing application and the three of you have asked to be roomed together, they will assume your housing priority number, which would absolutely mean that they wouldn’t get Wildwood. None of you.

Long story short: It’s possible. Pretty much anything with Housing is possible. It’s just extremely unlikely. And by unlikely, I mean pretty much not going to happen.

My priority number is 472, I am confident I will get into Landis, but I do not want to end up in a triple. Will I have a chance at getting a double or am I more likely to get a triple or quad?

There’s only a small number of triples/quads in the dorms that do have them (compared to the standard doubles). Pretty much no matter where you get housed, the odds are pretty low that you’d get anything but a double.

@Pascal,
What do you think of a 1267 priority number with Landis as #1 choice, and Gilchrist as #2 choice? He is an Honors Student.

I would say the odds are probably 80/20 in favor of getting a spot in one of the two.

Not everyone in front of him will be in Honors, and not everyone in front of him will attend FSU, I’m sure (essentially bumping his number down a bit, possibly to around 1200 when they throw out all of the incomplete applications).

There’s about 630 spots in those two buildings. A number of people will request Wildwood or DeGraff or some other building, too. I know a lot of people will probably request Wildwood, because it’s really new and has no meal plan requirement like Landis/Gilchrist.

Even though I personally would be a bit concerned with a priority number that high (not really an “omg it’s not going to happen” level of concern, but still debate a bit about where I’d like to live if not Landis/Gilchrist), I would be pretty surprised to find out that he didn’t get at least one of the two.

If I were you though, I’d make sure that he has a #3 choice that he would be happy with living in. I would suggest either Wildwood or DeGraff or maybe another east-side dorm near Landis and Gilchrist.
