I am a rising junior and am pretty much assured that I would like to do pre-med. now, in order to get into a school of distinction, I was wondering what is most important? for pre-med that is? research, EC's, volunteer work all play and work together to form a complete package but can any of you guys give me a prioritized list of what you feel are the top most important things to adcoms when looking at apps for pre-med applicants? i know there is a plethora of knowledge out here on these boards, please help! :)

Research always helps. EC's based around community service and helping others might give you an edge in entering a BA/MD program. Volunteer work especially in a medical setting is particularly helpful. And I've heard that shadowing a doctor (you might have already done this since you know you like premed) is also useful in demonstrating to a school that you are interested in premed.

If I had to choose the most important thing though, I think high grades and a high SAT would help you the most. All the other things I mentioned might be the difference between getting into a Stanford or getting into a Harvard. But ultimately, it always comes down to grades.

From what I have read from past applicants importance rates in this order for pre-med undergrads applying to med school. 1. GPA both normal and BCPM. 2. MCATs 3. Clinical Experience 4. Normal work experience 5.Research 6.Shadowing. Onwards from this is everything else
