The Best Way to Find Out Your Chances

Don't ask on an Internet forum where nobody has any substantial idea of your personality/background/high school reputation/etc. Such threads are usually worthless, as these are all major factors that play a role in college admissions, particularly "elite" college admissions. (Many people will concur that there is no way to know if you will for sure get into a school, especially HYPSM etc. I will be the first to admit that, for the most part, my chancings are probably not accurate.) Sure, "What are my chances?" threads may help if you're just asking about your quantifiable stats for a particular college, but if HYPS is truly your dream school, you should already know whether you're in the ballpark range academically. A simple way to check is just to look up Average GPA/SAT/etc. on the college website.

Just look to see how applicants from your high school with similar stats fared at that university in the past. Look at the stats of people from your high school who were admitted to that university in the past and compare them. That's honestly the best way to go about it.

There are exceptions; like people from high schools who haven't sent someone to that uni in 10+ years. However, they are few and far between.

Why look at applicants from your high school with similiar stats, when you can look at the countless number of people on this forum with similiar stats?

Of course noone is basing their entire opinion of their chances off of this site, most probably do everything you mentioned including speaking with counselors.
