Just got back from reunion weekend at Middlebury. Had a great time. Enjoyed an informative and entertaining conversation with President Leibowitz and Frank Sesno '77. Caught up with long-time friends and saw incredible facilitites. There is no doubt - there is no better LAC in the US. There is also no LAC better prepared for the next century.

Lol, I really admire your love for your Alma mater. Hopefully most of us will one day feel the same. :D

I knew my statement would simply be perceived/dismissed as bombast, but my time spent there, discussing the school with those in charge, left me with this distinct impression. It’s truly just a matter of time before the rest of academia comes to the same conclusion - if they haven’t already.

Two kids in college, add my own experience and my H’s --and I can see why Urban loves his alma mater. I could write Midd’s positive press with ease. I honestly think Midd is the best thing to every happen to our S. It’s been smooth sailing, a rocky road, and traversing path… and all have been ideal and life changing.

Urban: what did Sesno and the prez say that made you feel even more confident about our alma mater? And Moda: I suggest you send your offer to write Midd’s press to someone who matters, like to presoff@middlebury.edu — they can use better writers. I don’t think the excellence of the place is all that publicized, and its innovative approach to things has not been underscored enough (though the Midd Magazine article from the Winter on the Solar Decathlon team was sure good press and did reveal something very special and different about our LAC).

Panther, In talking with them we discussed the future of LAC’s in general. Without quoting them (I’d be sure to mess that up), they said that the future is more and more global. No LAC is more global or better positioned for a transition to this global world than Middlebury. Prez stated unequivocally that this future is not simply a result of the decline in the economy (and therefor would perhaps return as the economy improves), but rather, it is something that is already happening and will happen. Prez understands the direction the College needs to take. He understands why it needs to go in that direction and he understands how to take it in that direction. We are in good hands.
