"The Blacker the College the Sweeter the knowledge"

The only problem I see with going to an all black college is that people are not getting the exposure to other groups of pople that we may need.

Howard v Harvard......outcomes following graduation? Which would you choose....how does the job market reward the "Sweeter" schools?

The only reason why HBCUs are around is because when they were created they were the only places for blacks to go to college, because they certainly couldn't go to Harvard, Princeton, or any other schools that were... wait for it... All white! Haha, Harvard is a HWCU, but everyone wants to go there so it quickly diversified. Howard and other schools like that are open to everyone, it's just that people of other races don't much want to go there...

if these "Sweeter" schools are highly desired and ranked then students of all races would want to become the diversity.....the URM....at these fine institutions. Is that the case????

I think most white people are scarred of being labeled a racist. Thats why they don't say anything

[/quote]
I think it's a combination of that, and that being white has become a bad thing in some liberal circles. For example, when John Roberts was nominated to the supreme court, a number of racist liberals made remarks like "Oh, another white person on the court".

Also, there are many diversity supporters who see individuals as people of a race rather than human beings. Cities that have high populations of white people are sometimes implied to bad because of the ethnic makeup (however, the same isn't said about cities with Black or hispanic majorities).

For example, I went to college orientation, and we got a little book. There was a section about diversity, and stories by students about diversity. Many had a similar theme "I lived in a homogenous white town, and now I've moved to this college, and had a great time interacting with people of other races". The implication being, of course, that the white town bad.

I think it's these kind of things that have made it not politically correct for white people to have pride.

rc251 - Maybe its just the schools liberal agenda to promote diversity and destroy homogenous groups. Mostly all schools have that retarded diversity/multicult part on their websites and so on. Its getting out of control I think. I posted a while back in the business forum about what I thought about diversity...Ill try and find it.

edit: cant find it.

I don't know what it so controversial about these schools. There are very simple explanations to all these questions.

"Maybe white people don't cling to their pasts because they realize its potentially detrimental to their futures. Certain other groups could learn from this philosophy and quite whining!"

VERY WELL SAID. It is not a racist comment, but mere fact that in this society there are a higher PERCENTAGE of black criminals and their iq is proven lower. Instead of placing culpability on bogus reasons such as "unequal education" etc., ppl need to simply bear responsibility (as Bill Cosby has said multiple times)

and...if historically black colleges exist, in our "equal" society, colleges with the title "historically white colleges" should be able to exist as well.

and i am not racist at all; i just stand for equality and not for liberal ********.

Confused Applicant...I see why you're confused!
White people wont live in the past because there are a lot to be ashamed of...Christian Crusades.....Raping of slaves....breeding of slaves.......building of the cross country railroad....native americans....Iraq! Minorities built this country for the white people to live off of. It is so sad that you would honestly believe that black people just innately have lower intelligence then whites.(says the KKK probably) How Sad!

well you definitely live up to your screenname. i'm just going to quote filmxoxo17.

so basically as you see, the difference between the "historically white colleges" you (confusedapplicant) think should be able to exist and "historically black colleges" is that other races besides white people want to go to these "historically white colleges". you can't deny the fact that other races just aren't attracted as much to hist. black colleges. but at least HBC started off letting everyone from every race in, unlike HWC that started keeping nonwhites out on purpose.

Oh my goodness this doesn't have to be another race debate. There are such things are Historically White Colleges and Universities, ConfusedApplicant... they are called Rice (Which had a charter that no black students could enroll) Harvard, Princeton, heck most Universities in America are Historically White in the same sence that Howard, Spelman or Morehouse are historically Black.
If some of you have agendas that you wish to voice, please voice them in the appropriate place instead of trying to turn a simple conversation into a heated race debate.

haha. that's true. but what can you expect from a thread titled "The Blacker the College the Sweeter the knowledge" on cc?

Haha I posted that before I saw your clear rebuttal to Confused post... Isn't it exasperating?

yeah, but what can ya do?

Please restrict your posts to the original topic, the pros and cons of attending a historically black college.

<<confused applicant...i="" see="" why="" you're="" confused!="" white="" people="" wont="" live="" in="" the="" past="" because="" there="" are="" a="" lot="" to="" be="" ashamed="" of...christian="" crusades.....raping="" of="" slaves....breeding="" slaves.......building="" cross="" country="" railroad....native="" americans....iraq!="" minorities="" built="" this="" for="" off="" of.="" it="" is="" so="" sad="" that="" you="" would="" honestly="" believe="" black="" just="" innately="" have="" lower="" intelligence="" then="" whites.(says="" kkk="" probably)="" how="" sad!="">></confused>

Native Americans have plenty to be ashamed of. Like scalping innocent European children whose families had crossed the sea to colonize a new land. And the Irish, Italian, German, Greek immigrants to this country were dirt-poor, toiling away in textile mills and creating the NYC subways system while living in disease-ridden tenements. Difference is they got over it, worked hard, used their brains and moved up in society. Current minority groups should study their success stories and try to emulate them...

Okay... how about we stick to the topic from now on instead of provoking an argument? The mods already said it once...

Pros: You get recruited by Investment banks and other lucrative jobs.

Cons: None that I can see unless you are prejudice against a homogeneous student body which I don't have a problem with.

edit:spelling

Pros:
1. Being able to learn with others who are as driven as you, while being able to discuss experiences in this country as an African-American
2. Caring and nurturing faculty and staff
3. Unique learning experience
4. Awesome recruitment opportunities

Cons
1. Some people do not understand the importance of HBCU's

As I see it, HBCUs could potentially foster a greater sense of identity, belonging, and empowerment for a Black student than other universities. This could have a decidedly possitive effect on the person as it would, to some extent, undue negative effects of society that in some cases deprive black students of these senses. Conversely, I suppose they could also potentially arrest the student's sense of diversity by denying them interactions with a diverse range of people.

I personally don't want to attend one, but I do understand why they are supported by the Black community.
