@Mansfield - I was on Jeopardy almost 14 years ago (came in 2nd to a 5-time champ), and my biggest fear before the taping was also not making it to Final Jeopardy (I did make it). They tape 5 shows in one day, and since I was on the Friday episode, I got to watch all the other tapings for that week. Of course, in one of those games, someone didn’t make it to Final, which only got me more anxious about that not happening to me.
Congratulations @Mansfiel, and belatedly, @shellfell.
Ai national business publication published a long article about the company ShawSon and a classmate started a year ago.
My senior D already has a job offer from one of her top-choice companies and she hasn’t even interviewed with them yet. We felt fairly confident she’d have some offers before graduation in May but she scheduled herself to do all interviews mid-March. Having a solid and exciting offer before even getting herself “out there” is pretty.darned.fab in my book.
So happy for my friend’s daughter who didn’t even graduate HS (got a GED) and was just accepted as a transfer student in Mechanical Engineering to Ga Tech!!!
Congrats @jym626.
I co-founded a tech firm with some Stanford kids. Today we signed a term sheet to accept $3.5 MM in investment from a syndicate of venture capital firms.
WOWOWOWOWOW!
Week one seems to have gone extremely well, can hardly wait to post my next brag. Gotta wait until her final decision though.
D called this week. She rarely calls, usually texts, so when she does call my heart drops. I think UH OH what happened now?
She is a 3rd year medical student wanting to apply for a residency program this fall that has very few spots nationwide (maybe 20ish).
She was just offered an away rotation for May with one of these residency programs. It will be a huge boost to her application that she will complete a couple months after that rotation, as well as getting to know the people in that particular program. They will be able to put a face to a name, know her work and have done a pre-interview of sorts already.
Wish there was a “love” button @bajamm! Congrats to your daughter!
Can I brag about my SIL?
It was announced yesterday that he is the winner of 2019 Pawley Medal for Outstanding Early Career Physicist by the Australian Academy of Sciences.
Wow!
My brags at this point in life is that H and I raised two wonderful people that are contributing work wise, and now I will help with making sure grandchildren are raised well (GD here and GS due in July). Also H and I are hanging in with paid employment until we are 65, in the not too distant future. We can’t wait but also want to live out our time before then too. It will be an exciting chapter if we can continue to hang onto good health.
My daughter got a promotion and a big over 25% raise. She is doing so well only three years out of college.
Admitted with fellowship! PhD program at tippy top school in her major. So excited for her.
Congratulations!
DD casually announced at dinner that she’s adding a math minor to her chem e degree. This is in addition to her collaborative leadership certification. Apparently it’s “no big deal.” This mom is still feeling proud and excited that she’s so invested in her education.
Middle son is taking a new job, a nice salary increase and good benefits.
My middle schooler got a note, will be competing in the regional science bee, history bee and geography bee based on the first two levels. We always wanted well rounded kids. Same kiddo is also going to the next level in two national math exams. Kids is non- chalant about all of them.
I went skiing today. First time this season, because I’ve experienced two serious knee injuries in the past two seasons and was worried my skiing days were over. Today, I am unabashedly bragging that I skied OK, without the stress/tightness of the last two years, I didn’t fall once, and I had a great day. Yes, my leg is strapped in a titanium brace meant to keep my knee more stable. But I can ski !! Woo-hoo!
Well yesterday was a fascinating day. I was videoed for several hours by a pharmaceutical company for in-house use to help their scientists learn how their medicine can help folks with lung disease live better lives. Many of them never get to interact with patients so it was exciting to talk with them and have them speak with me.
As an interesting aside, the chair of the board of this company had just met my physician in another state! This chair of the board was also present at the meeting and his father just died of lung disease as did the mother of one of the other employees.
The medicine has just been approved by FDA after the molecule was invented by their company in 2005!! I’ve been taking it for 2.5 months and so far, so good!
