Okay, this has been asked, but I have specific questions:

Do I need a pocket knife, lighter, baby powder/gold bond, sunscreen, chapstick, alarm clock? All, none, a combination? Any specific brand or hints would be great!

Or anything else to add–thanks in advance!!!

you will be issued sunscreen, chapstick. You will never know the time in basic, so you will have no clocks or watches. As a girl, bring your own sports bras and underwear (white). You will have chance to go to the C-store fairly early. They will tell you some things to get, but my recommendations are the blue bottle of gold bond (for chafing) and cleaning supplies for dusting and mirror cleaning (windex). Otherwise, don't bring anything, you won't be keeping it. Only stuff you keep is a razor for guys and under garments for gals.

I literally brought nothing but the clothes on my back (and my boots slung over my shoulder...)

But as hornetguy said, you'll be issued everything you could possibly need during basic, and what you don't get issued, you'll have the chance to buy at the C-Store (as long as it's not some sort of food or time keeping device or entertainment device at all.)
Also, in the C-Store, be wary of cadre slipping stuff into your basket, usually funny or embarrasing things that they can then make fun of you about after you exit the store...

But yeah, definitely get Windex, 409, Paper Towels, and Starch (a lot if you can, you're gonna wanna be ironing pretty much every night up on the hill) at the C-store. Thats pretty much all I can think of now.

Really? Don't bring (pretty much) anything?!

And the C-store doesn't run out of all those supplies?

When do we get to have things again? Should my parents lug a huge box of stuff after basic is over in August? I'm still a little wary about arriving empty-handed.

Thanks for the cadre hint--they sure do want you to learn to be alert at all times! But what could be that embarrassing? (Ooh, perhaps I shouldn't even ask...)

The stuff you do bring will be taken away from you, and you'll have to track it down after Basic. You can't have really anything during basic except issued supplies and . You will be allowed to have "things" again after basic, but there is still a bunch of stuff you can't have (music, movies, video games, civilian clothes etc.) If there are things that you will need after basic, and won't be "contraband", then yeah I'd say it'd be a good idea to have your parents bring a box out from Acceptance Day.

Plus, what you do bring, you'll have to lug around ALL day (and it is a VERY long day...) on I-Day.

And about the embarrassing items...you'll find out, I'm sure!

About all I brought, that I actually think was a good idea, was my phone and charger. My parents couldn't make it on Acceptance day, so I called them to talk/ask them to ship stuff up.

Well, ladies will want to also bring certain critical products that we men don't have to think about. Also, parents weekend is a good time to buy a printer as has been said several times before. The local stores even stock up on em for that weekend!

A lot of stores -- namely Best Buy -- get insanely crazy on Parents weekend. My folks already bought a printer and will mail it up after BCT.... just an idea :)

Another choice is to go up to Denver. I got my printer at an Office Depot up there on sale. No one around.

i got my at home when it was onsale, and my aprents just brought it when they flew out

What type of printer are your guys recomending? Does the Academy have a list of brands/models that they suggest? I'm thinking it must be a real mess trying to have the C store stock hundreds of different ink cartridges if every cadet brings in a different type of printer....

Any suggestions on the more "common" printers you are seeing around campus?

Now, what about razors for guys? Did most of you 2010's not even bring those with you? I am considering bringing both an electric razor and a manual razor, or is that not a good idea? Thanks.

As for the printers, they have a huge section with all the different cartridges, so you don't really need to worry about model. It's always stocked, for the most part too.

For the razor, I'd say yeah go ahead and bring both. I brought both, but I found the electric is more useful during Basic- because you'll only have a very short amount of time to shave before you have to fall out in the morning, and if you don't shave, they'll know. The electric is quick and easy.

.....hey, you can practice sleeping on top of the blankets too! That's excellent preparation IMO ;)

I'd suggest an HP printer, I think that's the best stocked ink. Especially if you get a printer with the vivera ink (one cheap cartridge per color) which is easier to maintain.

lol, Falcons '11, the razor conversation was a long one we had. I still hold to electric. But, you could use the manual at night and use the electric quickly in the morning. That might be a good compromise for you.

my hp printer stopped feeding after two uses, so i had to call in. apparently they've had that problem a lot with the psc 1500

I haven't had a single issue with mine, so, you have bad luck. Especially considering you've lost your motherboard....twice.

Ouch. That can't be fun.

Lol, hornetguy, you're right (about the razor) as usual. :)

yeah, but apparently the motherboard problem was a Gateway issue, which they just now are able to fix ("a transducer on the motherboard located under the left palm-rest is being crushed by a small plastic rivet whenever the case is “squeezed”). so that one's not my fault hornet ;)

but i would guess i'd ahve bad luck figuring that, the printer, and my external crashed in December...

As for shavers, I brought a really cheap electric one...bad idea. It did not shave close enough, especially since my facial hair grows fast. I bought a manual one at the C-store.

I would suggest bringing a good electric shaver. (slight emphasis on "good")
