Upon visiting during the week in the afternoon when classes were in session, we noticed the campus was really quiet.

The very very few students that we saw were walking to class alone.

With the #1 rating of the happiest students, I thought the campus would have more life.

I don’t go to rice, but I saw a similar post but about Princeton. If classes are in session, I’m guessing most people are studying or in class or in the Rex center. Maybe at night is when the action really thrives.

We were there for owl days a week ago. We saw a bustling campus with students between classes and lunch hour.

Isn’t it (near) the finals week? Maybe that’s why? hmm

Finals start this week, and by this time of the semester, if you’re not in class, you’re going to be either studying or sleeping, especially since the afternoon is prime napping time.

A couple things: Rice is a late campus…most people’s classes are going to be in the late morning or afternoon. Don’t expect to see a lot of people around at 8:00 in the morning. Also, the reason you won’t see a lot of people walking around for 75% of the hour is because that is when classes are in session. Stick around and you’ll definitely see hoards of people walking to class during the 10 minute layovers. Finally, most of the “hanging out” at Rice happens at the residential colleges, so if you’re looking for people, they’re most likely going to be there. It’s also finals week…we’re especially busy.
