I went on a search for info on the Catholic University’s MT program, and I didn’t find much here on any of the boards.

So, is anyone in the MT program there? Know anything about it? I would love to know more, considering they accepted me. LoL

Thanks, Kelsee

I understand that they have a top notch music program. I am not that familiar with the MT program but my guess is that it would be strongest in voice. I also know that they have a connection to an equity theater (perhaps helping with equity card after graduation). There are also a lot of students that are involved with a southern touring troupe. Sorry, I am only remembering a conversatiion with someone who went there 3 years ago and can't remember details.

I'm bumping this thread up to see if anyone now has any info or input, I'd like to know a bit about Catholic as well.

Here is a little bit.

Catholic University is located in Washington, DC, is an urban campus with a Roman Catholic affiliation. There are 2,900 undergrads. For the university at large, they accept 82% of applicants. Some stats are: 22% from top 10% of their HS class, 57% from top quarter, Avg. GPA 3.4, mid SAT V 520-640, M 510-620, combined 1030-1260, mid ACT 21-27.

They offer a BM in Musical Theater (by audition) and a BA in Drama which has no audition. The BA in Drama, however, includes conservatory style classes, including acting and movement. The School of Music has a BM in MT but that is by audition. A BM program is going to emphasize music in the MT training a bit more than some BFA programs do. They have a connection with Arena Stage which is an Equity theater company. I believe the BA program graduates 14 per year and you enter the major in soph year. That is a liberal arts degree and not professional training. They do have a MFA program.

For the BM admissions, auditions involve singing, dancing and acting. The dance part of the audition, however, is your own dance routine to an accompaniment tape. Students are reviewed by the faculty at the end of their sophomore year to determine their acceptability for admission to junior-level courses. Students are required to audition for every musical theater production. Students take private voice every semester and also dance every semester. Students with extensive dance training may elect to fulfill their dance requirements at one of the consortium universities or at an area dance school. Only students with advanced level training may request to take dance elsewhere. The curriculum includes piano study requirements and students have to pass a proficiency exam. Students are requiremed to be in the university chorus (it IS a music program/school). The curriculum includes ear training and sight singing which is typical of a BM degree program. Acting courses are part of the courswork all four years. There are not as many courses in theater studies like one would have in a drama/theater dept. program.

A client of mine is visiting this school right now and perhaps I may learn more about it soon. Hope this helps.
