The CC Forum: 1,221,385 Topics (And Counting)

Yeah, I added 'em up. Could we possibly have missed anything?

There are actually a lot of things that are not on CC. For example, I have found no information on the Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Program, but it seems to be a good program as the State Department pays for you to study abroad [Usually around a $8,000 value] in a country with a large Muslim population, ranging from Bosnia/Herzegovina to Mali.

Seems like something new comes up every day–enough to keep me coming back for years and years.

I’m sure I’ll be adding some more. Just think how many more we’d have if we still had the political forum;)

I think we need to talk some more about whether prestige matters.

Looking for an REU subforum.

I didn’t see this year’s annual “I’m Asian and I didn’t get into any Ivies” thread. What happened?

I have a few questions that I have been searching a few weeks and have been unable to find.

Question:As stated in the ASK the DEAN section, college defeciencies or imbalances exist…how do students from FL find out what deficiencies are at UF? “As you’ll observe when you read it, students admitted from the waitlist are often selected to fill some deficiency in the enrolling class. Such deficiencies might include (but aren’t limited to): gender, racial/ethic background, geography, choice of major, special talents.”

For example, it used to be 2 men to 1 woman, now I hear the number is 70% women, so are there deficiences by race or Floridians in some programs?

Is there a limit of 10% the number of foreign students that FL schools can take…meaning they take 90% FL students?

How does one find out which deficiencies exist at UF, and where the applications are down the most?

I’ve noticed that there’s VERY little information about Kaiser’s SYEP internship program… So you missed a topic  It’s not very well-advertised, but it’s super competitive! I’d think SOMEone would have mentioned it at least once but oh well…

If you take out all the threads with the word “Ivy” in the name, and then eliminate all those that discuss the merits of Duke vs. Michigan, there would probably be less than half of what you counted up.

Nothing to add–just good to see some of those old-time screen names. Hope you all are healthy and happy and your kids on their way to running the world. I check in from time to time, but with youngest a hs senior, it might become even more sporadic.

Until, that is, CC starts that “Life After College” or “Grandparents” forum. ;)

Wait, you can’t count it as a separate topic if it’s the same topic brought up 5,000 times.

Right…Parents Whose Students are Graduating but Have Been Together 5+ Years and Really Like Each Other and Don’t Want to Lose Touch.

^^Like, missy!

Does that include what are my Chances or not?

I know there’s a thread for St. Andrew’s in Scotland, and I see a thread about Canadian colleges, but I’m wondering if it’s time for a subforum about colleges outside of the US. At St. Andrew’s, for example, Americans now comprise 15% of the undergraduates.

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I have found CC to be woefully inadequate or downright remiss in addressing many topics. Below are a few lists that I have compiled over time. I like to think of them as my “Threads I’d Like to Read” series from the “Parents of the College Class of 2014 and Beyond” thread. So, 2014 college parents, you have already been subjected to and can ignore most of these.

• We’re making a list of what we pay for vs. what DS pays for (tuition, books, printer paper, ink, etc.). At your house, are condoms a “want” or a “need”?

• Hypothetically, pretend that during move-out you accidentally backed into someone else’s car, but it was only a tiny dent, just minor parts fell off, the flames were quickly extinguished, the broken glass was hardly noticeable, the siblings were mostly OK, that car seat was old anyway, and you were able to push the airbag back in… should you have left a note?
• Yeah, but Job never had to wait for a move-in cart.
• We’ll never resolve this, so let’s get started…
• After the interview, the AdCon wrote “NFW” on DS’s folder. What does that mean?
• Why can’t DW understand that all you have to do is wrap a rag around the faucet and dangle it in the sink? There, leaky faucet problem solved.
