If also accepted to Middlebury, I was just curious where else did students get in and where are they going?

Son accepted at Bates, Bowdoin, Carleton, Colorado College, Grinnell, Middlebury, and Whitman. Where’s he going? I’d love to know, but so far, he ain’t sayin’. :)

Of course he’s going to Middlebury. Why would he choose any of those other places? ;)

Come to Colorado College…he’ll be amazed beyond belief how great the block system is for learning…nothing like waking up in the morning and looking at Pikes Peak too…awesome school! I chose it above many of his other choices and never looked back!

^ Actually, he’s at CC right now for the accepted students days!

Is he going to one of the Middlebury open house weekends?

Well I hope he likes what he sees. It’s wild here right now with all the new admits…really makes me wish I was starting all over again…these first three years have flown by. I will admit, the campus isn’t as pretty as Midd but the student body is awesome and everyone here is happy beyond belief. The block breaks make for so many different opportunities to explore Colorado and surrounding states. For that reason, I feel like our world is alot bigger than just this campus. It’s great too when profs say, “pack your bags…going in the field for a few days or down to the Baca Campus!” They have so many liberties knowing we are not tied up with other classes that they can make for some very unusual learning experiences for us. Also, the block system is very helpful in the real world as well. I have heard recruiters say they like CC kids because they can give them a big project with a short deadline and they know they’ll get it done because we are use to the pressure of large assignments in short periods of time. I do not regret my decision at all. Good luck with making a decision and make sure he picks the school where he feels like his heart fits…all great choices he has from an academic perspective that fit is the most important thing he should look for now…the differences between the schools you mention are minimal for the most part…he deserves to be happy wherever he chooses to enroll.

Thanks, flyboy - you truly are a geat spokesperson for CC! Just talked with my son. He’s having fun, but didn’t get much sleep last night, had a class to get to, so didn’t say much. Here’s the kicker: he said that yesterday he found out (online) that he was accepted at Brown, but didn’t get around to call or text me about that last night! So I guess CC is keeping him busy!

arcadia: we’ll be planning other accepted students days visits in the next few days. (He planned the CC visit months ago, since he was accepted EA).

Midd vs HWS-no contest.
DS is blissfully(and he is NOT easily pleased)happy at Midd.He says he feels like he’s living at a luxury hotel…Hope he’s doing his own laundry…

WOW! Accepted at Brown and he didn’t call or text…he must be having toooo much fun here! He’ll do well no matter where he goes…as for luxury at Midd…I agree…I was afraid I might break something walking around the campus!

Well… didn’t intend this to be a thread for encouragement as to which school to attend but more as a way to see the kind of choices a kid who was accepted at Midd would also have.

As for CC… great school, very popular choice for some of the kids from S’s HS, but also has had it’s share of transfers from kids whose chief complaint was feeling a little hemmed in or bored with the one class block schedule. They missed the variety of different professors insights and their finding intellectual connections among all their classes. I’ve also noticed that his friends from CC end up traveling around to visit others at different schools more so than others, although some of this can be attributed to the long weekends at the end of three week terms at CC.

Yeah…block breaks are great for visiting and keeping in touch with friends…imagine, it’s like having a Thanksgiving break every month. As for bored, maybe those kids should have taken more advantage of the adjunct classes in the afternoons…1/4 credit each and can take at least one per block. Delved into alot of different things that way that i never would have had time for on the traditional semester system. Differnt strokes…that what this is all about…most kids admitted to Midd would have lots of choices, I imagine.

Flyboy, stop digging at Midd…I sense sour grapes.Go post on the CC Board, for crying out loud.

^ Well, I think he’s lauding CC; don’t think he’s “digging at Midd”. (At least that’s my opinion as someone who’s been accused on this forum of being employed by Midd). :)

I don’t sense digging at Midd either, but as I said… wasn’t intended to be a “we’re better than…” kind of question. As Flyboy says, lots of good choices for those who are accepted at Middlebury and I was just curious as to what those might be this year instead of the which one is “better” question. Obviously, that all depends on the person and for Flyboy, it seems CC fit the bill.

^ ^ ^ ^
"I was afraid I might break something walking around the campus! "

^ No biggie, far as I’m concerned.

Agreed, we’re all friends, aren’t we? Just a little cranky today perhaps(moi, not vous).

Yeah batsie…was just agreeing with your description of Midd as a luxury hotel…I have always thought Midd is beautiful…so is William and Mary, Cornell, JHU…and a slew of others…CC is probably the worst of them all…but I do love the place anyway.

Haha well, I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m in the driver’s seat at this point, but I’m definitely going to Midd.

(Because I was waitlisted at Amherst, Georgetown, Brown, and Swarthmore.)

BUT! Midd was high up on my list, 2nd if not 1st, so I’m thrilled and overjoyed about this opportunity.
