Just left our freshman son off at Middlebury to start his college life.
The two days of family orientation were very informative and allowed my wife a nicer transition to life without another one of our children, living under our roof.
Wanted to thank all of you for your insights and guidance over the entire college application process. My son elected to go ED, as the school was his number one choice from the moment he stepped onto Midds campus.
As the saying goes you watch, you do and you teach. With all of your help, I believe that I can pay it forward and hopefully help others in the future go through this emotional but fun rollercoaster and maybe make it a tad easier.
Once again,Thanks

Best of luck to your son. It’s only just begun.

^^ Very nice thoughts fleishmo6! Your son will have the time of his life. One of the things that struck me as a parent when we dropped off our S in Feb is how well Midd did in providing parental programming and how accurate and well informed the speakers at those programs were. The administration understood their Feb porgram, they understood the issues that would face the students, and they were well prepared to address all of those issues. I’m sure this is true at many small LAC, but I can tell you that our experiences at larger institutions was not the same. From a practical standpoint alone, a larger school just can’t provide the same kind of contact and the demands on the administrators and professors are such that they can’t dedicate the time and emotional energy that the Midd people do. Good Luck to your entire family and welcome to your new family!

Agree with Karate and while our youngest D’s drop off a much larger but still private university was informative etc, we didn’t come away as completely impressed as we did with Midd. But more importantly, we arrive to today - move in of our s’s senior year - even more impressed than when we began. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, besides the travel to get there and low number of hotel rooms in the area in general, I cannot sing the praises of Middlebury College enough. I hope your son has a fantastic experience.

My boys are both abroad this fall, so I missed the “drop off” and will be sad not to attend Parent’s weekend.
I remember dropping my older S the feb off, and the welcome he and my family received was so warm even now the memory of it brings tears to my eyes!
