The Claremont Consortium

heyy everyone, i just got my acceptance yesterday and I was wondering how much contact the schools have with one another academically AND socially.

The consortium one of the main reasons I chose to apply, as each of the schools seem to have particular strengths and weaknesses. Also, I'm really looking forward to college as a way to meet a lot of new and interesting people (boys too!). Is it easy to cross-register? Do a lot of students do it?

gatorgirl - are you going to post on the "Admitted" thread?

I know there are many old posts on the Consortium and cross-registration.
If I get time later today I'll send you some links.

I attend Scripps. I am a freshmen and already I have taken a ton of classes off campus - the first semester and second semester there are restrictions as to what you can take outside of Scripps, but after that, you can pretty much take all of your classes off campus. Although, there is no need to do that, since guys take Scripps classes too.

I go to parties at CMC and Harvey Mudd every weekend and I eat at a different dining hall every few weeks. I have about the same number of friends from each school.

Needless to say, yes, there is a ton of contact with the other schools. But, you have to put yourself out there. It is also very easy to isolate yourself at one of the schools, so you just have to make the effort to meet people off campus and join 5-C clubs, etc.

Hi, gatorgirl --

To add to MissLovelyRita's post: (1) I cross-enroll a LOT (in truth, my favorite place to take class is on Scripps, but cross-enrollment allows for so much more variety, not to mention pickiness of professors, schedule, etc.). Just to clarify, meeting guys is definitely not the motivation between most cross-enrollments, although taking classes both on and off-campus is always an opportunity to meet students from the other schools (male and female); (2) I actually think it would be pretty hard to isolate yourself at one of the schools (depending on which school you go to). At some of the schools, it can be easier (Pomona and Mudd come especially to mind, due to geography and academic requirements, respectively. I can elaborate if necessary, but this isn't a criticism).

If you search my posts, you'll find a lot of pretty in-depth posts about Claremont in general (particularly re: Scripps). You'll also be taken to lots of Claremont related threads.

The gist of it is that the Consortium is the very best thing that Claremont has to offer. You'll use it constantly. More than you can even imagine as a prospective student. A very typical day is for me to wake up on Scripps, take class on CMC, have lunch on Pitzer, take class on Scripps, have dinner at Mudd, and go to a meeting or rehearsal on Pomona. Literally. I'm happy to go into greater detail if you have specific questions, but for now I can just offer broad assurance, point you toward past threads, and recommend http://www.claremont.edu.

Congrats on your acceptance!
