I started wearing my letter jacket again recently on jeans day at work. As I leave in the morning one day, one of my older sisters freinds observes the patch on the sleeve of my Varsity HS jacket reading '02. She says, "2002 that is kind of a long time ago". So I google the issue and found this site, I registar and reply to "Is it utterly gauche to wear your high school letter jacket at college?" You all can fire away at me.
Your not supossed to wear high school stuff to college.

ROFL! There are no rules about this. When I went to school all I saw were people wearing highschool freebie teeshirts. I mean, if you think you’re cool for wearing your letterman jacket, then no, that’s not right. If you’re wearing it because you like the jacket? Cool!

I really don’t get why people make up rules about this kind of thing.

Respect. I’m glad to hear that people are still wearing Lettermans. I really wish that they had those at my school.

Nowadays, the 70s-90s equivalent of the Letterman jacket is usually a Boathouse-style varsity jacket made out of polyester or Gore-Tex. They’re pretty nice, too. Some are water repellent, they don’t wrinkle easily, and they’re pretty easy to clean.

As for wearing high school apparel in college… well, I’m all for it. I’ve been trading shirts with kids from competing schools after our cross country meets (Deerfield, Exeter, Choate, Loomis, etc.) and I’ll definitely wear them after this year. It’s all about those memories.

I wear my letterman. Why should I buy a new coat if I already have a perfectly good one, regardless of the fact that it’s my high school letterman?
