The Classics: FSU vs. UF

For Classical Studies, which University has a stronger department?

I tried to find information, they both seem to have a great program; but when it comes to comparing the two, it's really perplexing.

What do you guys think?

Which University should be my first option?

Thank you.

Historically, Florida State is more liberal arts oriented than UF, which is an agricultural university.

Latin or animal husbandry? Hmmm.

Honestly, either one is probably fine. As p2n stated, UF traditionally leans toward applied sciences, such as engineering and agriculture, but I’m sure they have a solid program.

I think I would base my decision on what kind of environment I wanted to study in (Gainesville vs Tally). Definitely visit both schools and talk with people in the program.

Hogtown would be better for learning Pig Latin.

LOL. Good one. Pig Latin… :)

I have visited both college campuses and both are really nice; I actually already lived in Tallahassee for a year so I know my way around.

I already took Latin at my current community college so I am not worried about “learning” the language. I would just continue to take courses that allow me to use Latin.

I am also very interested in studying abroad and I think UF might have the better program for that because they do semesters rather than full years which the latter would be too lofty in finances for me.

Thanks for the information guys, I will apply to both Universities and my decision could come down to which school offers me the best package deal - as far as scholarships are concerned.

Honestly, I think Florida State has the far better overseas study programs than UF. FSU has had them for decades.

They are the best in Florida: [International Programs | Home](http://international.fsu.edu/)

FSU’s study abroad programs are considered among the best in the nation. They offer many one-semester sessions. My son just finished the spring semester in London at the university’s own study center and had the time of his life, both intellectually and socially.

Wow, thank you for linking me to the study abroad program. I am busy atm but I will read thoroughly when I get the chance.

This is a potential “game changer” for me. I am genuinely appreciative for these great posts.
