The countdown is beginning...

Ok, so it's getting close to that time when we start applications. I've done this before but I'm going to give one more chance for opinions or advice.

Too many reaches? Any I should get rid of?
Any new suggestions would also be helpful

why not unc-ch? you have a shot. your gpa is a bit low but your AP’s and sat score are fine for instate.

That looks like a reasonable start, as long as you have a safety or two on it. A safety is a school which 1) You are guaranteed or HIGHLY likely to be admitted to; 2) you can afford; and 3) you’d be happy to attend there. You should put as much emphasis on identifying your safety as your matches or reaches.

Beyond that, you probably should determine what it is you want from a school, whether it be size (hopefully large in your case!), location (urban/suburban/rural), distance from home, co-ops, etc. If you can visit before applying, that’s a definite plus to help you determine the all-important “fit”. Perhaps you might cut one or two of the local schools; one or two of the Big Ten schools; and one or two of the remainder to make things more manageable (or use some other comparison of similar schools, such as VA Tech vs Purdue). If FA is a consideration, try to determine ahead of time what you might expect as your bottom line COA - might help you cull down some.

You certainly can apply to them all and, assuming you aren’t admitted everywhere, let the schools do some of the culling, but at some point, you’ll have to do these comparisons and make a choice. They’re all fine schools - figure out what’s important to you, and you’ll end up somewhere you’ll be happy. Good luck!

Chapel Hill doesn’t offer engineering.

Thanks for all that! UNC Charlotte is my safety. I’d like to cut a couple but it’s hard. Since I haven’t been to many schools it’s difficult to know exactly what I want. None of them are local…even the in-state schools are a ways away. I’ve only actually visited one of those schools and will visit 1 or 2 more in the next couple months. As for the rest I will more than likely have to wait and visit once accepted. I plan on visiting some during winter…I’m a southern girl! Gotta make sure I can cut it in the cold haha
