The December SSAT.

hmmm...you'd think her mom would know she was taking the test

I know! That's what I thought.

were Herculean, stealthy, and pacifist the hardest words? were these words a good representation of how hard it gets (because everyone here feels that this was very hard compared to practice tests and if you remember those words, they probably struck you in some way.. were they salient because they were the ones you were stuck on?)

Well you're in an eleventh grader so the test will probably a piece of cake for you. I'm in eighth grade and it was really easy. I wondered if I really had the Upper Level test.

I couldn't have prepped much for verbal, however I suggest you memorize the words in the Princeton Review SSAT Prep 2006 Edition. There were probably four or five words I recognized from there.

Definitely not. They were probably the easiest.

do you remember any of the harder words?

Nope, sorry.

They have different tests for each date, and I wouldn't tell you the words even if I knew them if they didn't have different tests. It's called CHEATING.

Blair, you haven't taken the test yet? My friend is taking it on the 16th.

And yes, that is cheating, so I don't think you would get much information anyway. Chances are that those words will reappear are slim. I'm sure that the words are only used once on each test.

they have different tests on different test dates no matter what.. because then people could retake it. i was jsut asking because i wanted to gauge how hard it can be, since people thought this one was hard. i don't think that pacifist, Herculean, or stealthy are hard, which is what everyone seems to remember to be the hard ones, though everyone agrees this was a hard test.. so i'm trying to figure out if i just have a comprehensive and prepared ssat lexicon or if this test was hard for some reason. that's all. just gauging my aptitude.

Just study the words in the PR book.

BTW - I didn't say that herculean, pacifist, and stealthy were the hard one's. I said they were easy.

You should know all the words anyway since you're an eleventh grader. These were eighth graders talking.

The SSAT isn't meant for 11th graders. They should take the SAT.

"The SSAT isn't meant for eleventh graders. You should take the SAT."
The SSAT Upper Level Test is meant for eighth through eleventh graders. Many schools prefer the SAT for eleventh graders, but blairt already stated that they couldn't take the SAT as the date had already passed.

i'm not an 11th grader. i'm a 10th grader, applying for 11th. the ssat UL is for 8-11 graders, aplying for 9-12 grades. some schools feel the psat better represents a 10th grade student's ability but many don't and don't require it. admissions officers have said it doesn't matter, it's only for my benefit.

Sorry, blairt, I meant applying for eleventh grade.

When I was taking the verbal section, I thought it was hard, but it turns out I got a 96% ( but I'm in 10th grade)
I screwed up on math and got a 91% and I totally died on the reading section.
somehow i got above 700's in all three sections and my reading score was way lower than the others. Does anyone have an explanation for that? I am so confused with the whole grading thing because my total percentile is a 94.

Also, I only had two weeks to cram and prepare because I decided to apply to schools thanksgiving weekend. I didnt do as good as I could've, so I registered for the January one, BUT! my sister was telling me how schools wouldnt like it if I sent the latest score possible because they would think I took it many times before and that last one was my best and 'desperate' score. What do you think? Should I just send in my December score? I mean, it's not horrible, it's just the reading section that might kill me. Would that be critical to my application/chances of being accepted?

Thanks in advance.

Well, what's your reading score?

eh, 76%
I do admit I really struggled with it and it shows

I know applicants who got into top schools and took the SSAT twice. I don't think it's a good idea to take it more than twice. The schools will see both test results. In general, they take the scores from the better test date and do not count the other test. You can double check admissions on that.

While you might be disappointed with your reading score, it is well above an average score! Good luck!

thanks :]

do you think its better if i take and send in the january one or the december one. Ive only taken one. is the individual scores or the total percentage more important?

Msu -- I re-read your post so I edited my answer to include what I know about schools getting test results.

REALLY?!
thank god! i thought you could only send in one score

Here is how I understand it: If you take both the Dec. and Jan. tests, the schools you designate will receive both test scores. In general, schools only count the scores from the better test date.

You should call admissions in your schools to be certain that they will only count the better test date. I think it is common practice, but some schools may be different.
