Indian pride :)

Idk why, but I wanna keep this thread up.

Lol yeah me too.

So what about them brown parties guys? (yes, I’m talking about those family dinner parties. My other brown friends and I decided to call them brown parties and our non-desi friends thought they sounded really cool and always wanted to come to one. :P)

Lol I know, it’s nice talking to some normal desi people for a change.

Oh man, dinner parties. All the gossip, all the “wow you’ve gained/lost weight” (depending on what time of the year it is), the food, the aunties who give you third helpings even though you’ve made it clear you are full and then they go and tell you you’ve gained weight. HAHA. And then you’ve got the uncles in a corner arguing about something or the other while the tv plays loudly in the background. Assuming those are the types of brown parties you’re talking about :P

Hahaha obviously. And you can never just skip the party because it’s too disrespectful. And if there’s no one there your age, you end up sitting with one of your parents and all the other parents talk about you like you’re not right there. :P

^Yup story of my life

Im Gujrati :-)

Haha, whenever I tell my desi friends I’m going to a party with indian people there, they think I’m gonna get wasted, but in fact, I just talk about college to indian uncles.

ha, the parties are so fun when there are some people your age though. if not, I just end up following my mom everywhere or just awkwardly walking around.

The desi parties I go to always seem to have some sort of Bollywood dance done by the birthday girl or boy. It always seem to be the best or worst part of the party . All the non desi people are like "ong look at the traditional dancing " and I’m just like "that’s Bollywood… It’s far from traditional " lol

Yeah it’s awkward when someone decides to dance to Chikni Chameli. In front of all the aunties. Oh the gossip.

OR when the aunties decide to show off some “moves”, oh mah gosh, it’s sooo awkward.

lol. Bangladeshi parties don’t have any dancing

Do you guys all go to University? if so, what schools? I’m just curious.

nope. high schooler here

Cool me too, I’m gonna be a junior and I’m already freaking out. Do you know what university you wanna go to?

I’m going to be a senior FINALLY.
I have some idea of the unis I’m applying to. We’ll see after the (hopefully) acceptance letters come back.

ah, junior year. don’t worry Chewbacci, we’ll provide moral support ;)

My parents WOULD NOT SHUT UP about Indian food today.

Uh , big shock here peeps: brown isn’t commonly considered as south Asian in the U S. it is usually identified with Hispanics. Hope some of the ethnocentrism and standoffish ness wears off as you go through school here. Your reps are not that great. Just some unsolicited thoughts as some of you were coming across as full of yourselves in this thread. An image that is quite often used to portray south Asians in the academic sphere in the U S.

Hey guys, I am from Hyderabad and a soon to be senior. Nice to meet you all. :)
