The Differences: AP English Literature and Language

My school only offers AP English Literature and Composition, but other schools in my school district offer AP English Language and Composition. What is the difference between the two?

language and comp is geared toward writing. literature and comp you will read classic books, which sucks hard. i hated that class.

Yeah, language and composition is geared toward teaching basic types of writing strategies (description, narration, process analysis, classification and division, definition and argument/persuasion. You learn how to analyze the way other writer utilize these strategies (as well as figurative and sound devices) to convey their purpose.

In Literature, you read. I'm taking this course next year and I'm assuming you learn how to analyze and criticize literature. I'm assuming that means the essays I'll have to write will have to be more structured and less fun.

Literature also has poetry and classical novels.

Language has non-fictional prose.

in my school:

Language - Short Stories/Essays and Classical Novels

Literature - Poems and Classical Novels

Do you think AP Lit will help with my SAT CR section and/or my essay?

Language seems more geared toward analyzing rhetoric in prose.

Lit focuses more on poetry and classic literature.
