The Diversity Issue and Letting Race Count!

<p>Sup people, the diversity issue at UGA for a couple of years now has stirred many arguments and opinions. I would like to know your opinion and views.
Little do many people know but all this black/white, minority/majority talk about UGA has turned many "qualified" or "unqualified" black students, minority students away from the idea of applying to UGA (asked many of my friend who are part of the minority why not, they answer by sayng things like, white school, 5% black, racist students, etc...).
I was surfing some time ago and I read a couple of articles, some of the public feedback I found really insulting and supremist and the constant use of the term "blacks" rather than "black people" or "black students" and being one sided:
(like this one [scroll down and read the public feedback comments]
<a href="http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2004/12/uga_let_race_co.php%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2004/12/uga_let_race_co.php&lt;/a&gt;).
But I also found better ones also that expressed opinions from both sides:
( <a href="http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/custom/blogs/opiniontalk/entries/2004/12/10/ugas_diversity.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/custom/blogs/opiniontalk/entries/2004/12/10/ugas_diversity.html&lt;/a> )! </p>

<p>What are your opinions:
-Should race count in the admissions process?
-Does UGA really need to improve on diversity?
-DOES DIVERSITY REALLY IMPROVE AN INSTITUTION? (i strongly believe so)
-To UGA students, how are folks like at UGA, do different races mingle, or part?
-What do you think of the articles?
-Am I the only one who thinks that first article was insulting, ignorant?</p>

<p>Thanks Greatly for your feedback!</p>

<p>Is this thread to RACY (;-0) for anyone to reply? Cuz if it is, I understand!</p>

<p>I never realized that Georgia was a place for "rich, white kids". Geez, this is strange. That's the second school i've considered that has that label on them (Miami OH).</p>

<p>Thats because a lot of UGA students come from Alpharetta, Roswell, East Cobb, etc... Really its becoming less like that since the hope scholarship.</p>

<p>I heard about that... that's a great idea, making college tuition a non-factor for nearly all applicants.</p>
