The dorms/living situation...

What have you heard about the dorms at USC?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=142746&%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=142746&</a></p>

My S sounds pretty happy with his dorm--Pardee Great Outdoors Floor. It's older & has safes built into the closet--one for each student. There is a washer & dryer on each floor, 20 rooms with 2 students/room. No A/C, but the temperature seemed fairly comfortable when we were there in mid-August.

Friend's S lives in Mark Hall & it's VERY hot there (at least it was in mid-August). Friend bought the S a HUGE fan to help move the air around (no A/C there either).

I love Pardee Tower. The temperature is fine because my roommate and I keep our fans on 24/7. A heating system is available, but I doubt we'll need it until February, but maybe never. It's pretty social, but I guess each floor is different because of the mix of people on the floors.

New/North is known as the "social dorm," but it looks kinda dirty in there. Plus, whenever EVK has a problem, the fire alarm will go off in New/North, and it's a huge hassle.

I'd say Pardee Tower, Birnkrant, and maybe Marks Tower are the best in terms of distance to popular areas on campus, The Row, and food places since they're close to Trojan Grounds, the only 24/7 place of sustenance on campus.

Marks Hall and Trojan Hall are generally quieter, but since they're right next to Pardee and Marks Tower, residents also benefit distance-wise.

Parkside Suites is REALLY nice. It's completely new and has good food (although Parkside poeple get tired of it also). There are also a lot of international students, which can be good if you're seeking to make international friends but can be bad because students tend to stick with others of the same culture, so it's really the OPPOSITE of diverse. Parkside is also far from absolutely everything unless you're an engineering major or something similar.

The Radisson is also really nice. Big rooms, 24/7 room service, location right across the street...so it's also close to everything. Some people dislike the Radi because, well, it's across the street. But it's a little street, I swear.

My daughter loves Marks Tower and wishes she could live there again next year...it's a very convenient location.

The rooms are smaller than at some schools, bigger than at others...my daughter's been very comfortable. The bathrooms are maintained in good condition, and the fridge, microwave, and cable TV for each room is a Good Thing.

Fans are a must (it was nearly 90 today, Thanksgiving week!) but it's been fine for her.
