The dreaded personal statements

ok…so i’ve gotten the supplement essay done and the common app essay done and i think i did a fairly decent job on both…

now for the personal statements…

these seem to be easy topics “how did you get interested in brown” and “what topics are you interested in” but my question is…are these supposed to be as good as the essays? are they as important? or are they mainly to gather information about you and not to test your writing style and ability like the essays do? I mean the “how did you get interested one” sort of demands a straightforward answer…unless you got interested in Brown in a bizarre, unique way…like going for a visit and meeting a student who you connected with and helped you see that Brown is the place to be…yet sadly that isnt what happened to me :(…i basically got my info online and i think that’s all i need to know…a visit is not necesssary since it just sounds so perfect already and i dont think a visit would deter me from going there…i know i’m rambling but what do you guys think? lol

Just be yourself and take it easy.

You do not need to compare your experience with others. Everyone is unique. Just show your passion.Everything is gonna be fine.

yes, they should be as well written as the essays. No grammar errors, etc. However, they are significantly shorter.

Your answers can be straightforward, but try to make them as specific to Brown as possible. What information on the website appealed to you, for example?
