The Economist

Is The Economist popular among college students?

Depends; it's a fairly conservative publication.

I'm liberal and I read the Economist. I wouldn't say it's that conservative.

Yes, but primarily among libertarians and econ types.

Yea, my views fall closest to libertarian.

God what a boring publication. The Economist is great...if you want to fall asleep.

I love conservative magazines and I must concur with megaman123 -- The Economist is boring as hell. So dry.

One of the most read magazines by the business elite. The rest can stick with their Cosmo and Sports Illustrated. See how far that takes you.

Clearly you can't appreciate the brilliance and dry wit of their writing.

I think everyone should pick up an issue of the Economist and read it once in a while, its a great magazine. There's also the New Statemen which might appeal to the little anti-globalization activist in all of us.

I read the Economist and i'm liberal. It's the best magazine.

What would Playboy be classified as? Is that something the sophisticates read?

The real counterweight to the Economist is probably Le Monde Diplomatique. Brush up on your French though.

It's dense, in a good way. I read it at the library when i'm there. The Atlantic Monthly is pretty good as well, but monthly. The New Yorker is more liberal and arts oriented, but also generally good. Electronic Gaming Monthly is also pretty quality read. Er..

i read the economist occasionally. its okay every now and then.

"Clearly you can't appreciate the brilliance and dry wit of their writing."

hahaha I clearly don't care. I've read it a couple of times ( my brother always buys it) and I truly say that its the closest I've been to considering suicide, each time I turned the page I reassured myself of my love for masochism. Each new article made me want to be a step closer to death.....j/k...I just don't find it really interesting...I'd rather read other stuff

why do you ****ing care what other ppl think about a mag. if you like it and enjoy the writing/viewpoints then read it. i personally like it a lot and even subscribe to it.

I much prefer conservative mags like:

National Review
The Weekly Standard
The Western Standard
Commentary
First Things
American Conservative
New Oxford Review

I love the Economist. I'm so getting a student subscription this year.

I enjoy the Economist as well. It is dry as hell, but nothing beats the news coverage it provides, and occasionally it can be humorous. By the way, I am liberal and I would consider the Economist moderate. It basically just has sound analysis. I would recommend Foreign Policy if the Economist is too boring. It doesn't focus on straight news reporting, but it is a lot more readable and can have some really great analysis as well. Thomas Friedman (World is Flat) wrote a great article for it about about a month or two ago on the Laws of Petropolitics. Also, might consider Harvard Review magazines.
