The finest scenes in movies

The final race scene from American Graffiti:

I’ve managed to avoid “Saving Private Ryan” for a few decades. Hubby assures me it will be too intense for my liking. He is probably right. I did finally, I think during the bleak times of Covid isolation, agree to watch “Schindler’s List” with him. (That was interesting because our pastor, a former film studies professor, has made references. So I did notice when there was a red coat shown in the mostly black and white movie.)

Same with me, that movie makes me tear up every time I watch it. It’s so moving and powerful, it should be required viewing.

Another great movie, with very powerful and emotional scenes is “Cry Freedom,” which takes place in apartheid-era South Africa.

I watched Schindler’s List when it was first released in theaters. That was the only time that I’ve watched the film. I can’t watch it again.

I would say it’s definitely a worth a re-watch, but it’s a very emotional movie and it can be hard to watch.

My husband and my stepfather would say this is the finest scene in a movie and I kind of have to agree. It’s from Patton:

Another good pull. I’ve used that line to people over the years. With the advent of the cell phone, of course, it makes no sense. And requires an explanation.

“Schlinder’s List” was so tough to watch. The scene that moved me was when the young woman, presumably an engineer like me, told the workers to rebuild a wall because they’d done it incorrectly. An officer looked at her and shot her in cold blood. Then he told the workers to do just as she had told them.

The ending of “Philadelphia Story”

“Daniel Simpson Day…has no grade point average, all courses incomplete.”

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

A good scene, but here is my favorite from the same movie.

It’s hard to find anyone else with the same onscreen presence.

Not the finest scene in the movie, but certainly memorable.

Thanks. Now I want to rewatch that movie. Good lines, good acting.

Still haven’t seen Saving Private Ryan. Watched Schindler’s List but not a second time although it was good. I still remember seeing Platoon in the theaters when surround sound was fairly new. I felt like I was in the foxhole–everyone was scrunched down in their seats.
