JamesN: You recently posted that I should be ashamed of calling myself Catholic and still believing in and advocating evolution. I hope that you are aware that the Roman Catholic Church supports evolutionary theory based on its scientific merits. The last two popes have supported evolutionary theory.

I exhort everyone here to read the Koran. I also exhort everyone to realize that Islam is divided into two sects, "The House of Islam" and the "House of War."
[/quote]
And I exhort you to read a freakin book, Islam has more than 73 sects, none of them which you named.. and if your being sarcastic or some crap like that, don't state it like it's a fact cause some people will actually beleive you.

But, in terms of the here and now, it is in the Islamic faith that we find the most irrational violence and despicable stone-aged stereotypes ("honor killings," oppression of women, terrorism in general).

You hear everywhere that women are oppressed in Islam, but no one has actually given me a verse where it states anything AGAINST a Muslim woman.. As a Muslim WOMAN I know for a fact I am not oppressed.. Don't mix religion with culture...

Restore us to the glory days of the 7th century when women were not even considered citizens and were forced to veil their faces before a male!

The prophet's first wife, was a business Women, his other wife led an army, Women voted for their leaders, the men took care of them, and it was obligated on them to provide for the women, and that the women didn't have to use their own money to help the family at all, of course, unless she chose to help support the family, because of this, the husband can choose whether or not he wants her to work, but she can make it like a condition on the marraige contract... so please this women oppression thing is getting so old..

We can't sit around and blame all of our problems and the problems of the past on religion because the real cause and root of all of the injustices of this world is human nature.

I am not saying that we should not criticize the errors or flaws in religion but we always have to take into account the positive attributes of religion. Otherwise, our arguments are only one-sided and highly biased.

Exactly, thank you...

well, human nature was the reason for the development of religion.
humans found a need to seek stability from a higher power admidst the everyday struggle for survival.
indeed, you have contradicted yourself.

Its a question of religious tyranny vs freedom. Choose as you will.

Who's using ad hominem now?

Ad hominem does not equal stating an obvious fact, ja?

How did I contradict myself exactly? I think you might be confusing my post with d3!ty's posts. Could you please clarify?

In addition, the post that you quoted from was intended to point out the serious flaws in d3!ty's posts against ALL religions including Islam.

Yes, I agree that most organized religions began as attempts to bring stability to society. But I have never argued against that point. I simply stated that the problems of society are the results of human nature and not organized relgions. So, how exactly did I contradict myself?

Hardly! I know that it is very hard for you not to make such one-sided, highly biased opinions that frankly make no sense but please try to refrain yourself.

The true question is that there is no question. Nothing is so black and white. What you see as "freedom" can be viewed as the freedom to murder, steal, kidnap, rape, assault, lie, commit adultery and the list goes on. In addition, what you see as "religious tyranny" can be seen as religious enlightenment, stability, mental tranquility and spiritual peace.

Morality is black and white, the standard of judgement being individual rights.

Let's try to tone down the rhetoric a bit. You're making yourself sound foolish by using words like "freakin". I understand the de!ty's posts were extremely outlandish and highly accusatory but let us please have a civil discussion. We're all mature enough, I hope.

Why is that though? Why is everyone saying that women are oppressed in Islam. I'm not saying that they are but you're making it sound as if everyone is in a conspiracy to portray Islam as sexist. Are you saying that there is some sort of conspiracy?

It's nice that you can relate to your own life to argue against this claim but I recently read "Burned Alive" by Souad, which I highly recommend, where a woman was burned alive for having sex before marriage. The man, who also was unmarried, received no punishment for his sin. Only the women ever seem to have to suffer these despicable honor killings. You may not have suffered any form of oppression but then again you live outside of the Muslim world in Western society. I've seen several documentaries and have read numerous books and media reports of the crimes against women in the Muslim world.

Well, actually you are part of an even smaller minority in America. The Muslim population stands at about 1.104 million Americans or about .5 percent of the U.S. population. Check out Time Almanac 2005 for this statistics. I have actually heard the opposite with respect to the Muslim conversion rate expanding. Can you please provide unbiased statistical data to back up this claim?

You know very well that this is not how you phrased your previous post. This post actually sounds credible and not biased. Your other post was completely biased in its use of "religious tyranny" versus "freedom". But I acknowledge your retraction.

I am not retracting. Religious tyranny is the antithesis of individual rights.

Back to your old highly biased, one-sided rhetoric.
